Performing and Visual Arts
The Spring ISD choral music programs experienced success at the first round of all-state choir auditions, held in September at Westfield High School. Dekaney High School had two singers advance in the process, Spring High School advanced twelve singers, and Westfield High School advanced sixteen singers for a total of thirty students in Spring ISD. Advancing students will compete in the Regional round on October 24, 2022 at Atascocita High School as they attempt to advance to the Pre-Area round of auditions in December. School districts in our music region, TMEA/UIL Music Region XXXIII, include Aldine ISD, Crosby ISD, Galena Park ISD, Humble ISD, New Caney ISD, Sheldon ISD, and Spring ISD. Best wishes to all of our singers as they continue their preparation on their all-state music!
Spring ISD Performing and Visual Arts graduates excel at the highest levels of performance and we are excited to highlight two graduates in our board update this week. Kiaya Scott, a 2015 graduate of Spring High School, continues to excel in her career pathway of music and theater performance. Previously featured by The Alley Theater, Theater Under the Stars, and Stages, Kiaya was cast for her debut on Broadway in the fourth season of "Harry Potter and the Cursed Child." Kiaya was the president of the Spring HS Choir, an all-state choir member, and played lead roles in many Lion Player Theater Company productions during her high school career.
Sis Khalil, also a 2015 Spring High School graduate, is in the process of wrapping up her first Broadway tour as part of the traveling cast of "Oklahoma," playing one of the lead roles in the production. Sis was also featured in productions at the Alley Theater, Stages, Sam Houston State University, and various off-broadway projects in New York before landing her current role. Congratulations to both of these shining stars on their success!
