Motivating others to do things they do not think they can do requires a combination of positive reinforcement, encouragement, and clear communication. Positive reinforcement requires us to praise efforts and acknowledge their progress regardless of where people are in their journey. Encouragement is about reminding people of their abilities and strengths. It is about reminding them what they can do, not what they cannot. And, clear communication means setting realistic and attainable goals, explaining how they fit into the bigger picture, and providing the necessary resources and support to achieve them. By providing opportunities for personal growth, giving constructive feedback, and recognizing the efforts and successes, we can help those around us believe in themselves and their abilities.

Week 21: Grateful Friday Challenge

Well, hello Friday! How did you get here so fast? What’s that, you say... something about missing Monday? That seems so long ago, but welcome anyway. Glad you’re here!

Today let’s celebrate the number 4! We have had four great days this week and get to see the end of January next week without too many days in the negatives! To keep the fun rolling for one more day this week! Your #SHSGFC is to write 4 positive post-its to 4 different people. Stick a note on a classroom door during passing period, place one on a student’s desk, or pat one on your colleague’s shoulder as they pass you in the hallway -- place these wherever you would like to spread a little positivity.

One Acts was a success! Students performed seven different One Act productions this past weekend. We appreciate the efforts of Austin Lundsford over the past few weeks as he has filled in during our theater classes and prepare our students for One Acts. All proceeds from the show were donated to the Alumni Association for the Kim Roberts Memorial Scholarship.

Mrs. Posadas and her Spanish 4AP class are discussing the role of bread as it relates to cultural identity. Since most of the students have had tacos made with tortillas, this week, the class made Baleadas. Baleadas are Honduran-style tacos made with a thick flour tortilla, refried red beans, cheese, and cream. To drink, they had agua fresca de limón, which is a limeade made with fresh limes, water, and a simple syrup.

Our school counselors spent time training a group of students in peer mediation this week. Students spent the afternoon on Wednesday learning and preparing to help students solve conflicts with others. The students worked through different scenarios and discussed ways to resolve conflict for others. This great program empowers our students to be active members in helping our school be a better place.

Mrs. Rettig has worked diligently to get the DECA Club up and running this year. DECA is a club that prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in high school marketing, finance, hospitality, and management. Three of our students qualified for the state competition in their first experience in this program. We appreciate Mrs. Rettig's efforts to provide this unique experience for our students.
