Word of the Week - VIVID

Dear Hillcrest Community,

We are officially in the midst of festivities and celebrations. We are also celebrating the end of our first trimester and the accomplishments of our students. We hope you take advantage of parent conferences to get to know your child's teacher, get up-to-date information about your child, and to see the progress being made. Thank you to Ms. Gladys Adame and Ms. Yvonne Ip for the amazing Parent Workshop titled "How to have Effective Parent Conferences". Shout out to Ms Rodriguez for engaging the 6th graders in PBL and setting up a "Shark Tank", and shout outs to Ms Vong, Ms Luna, and Ms Hillman for implementing AVID organizational tools in their classrooms and collecting data for our school. I am proud to announce we will be honoring our first AVID Student Award recipients at Hillcrest

Husky Ambassadors have launched

  • 37 students in Grades 3-6 form our first Cohort
  • Students will hold Leadership Roles for 2 weeks at. a time
  • They will receive ongoing training and grow their leadership skills

School Attendance Updates

  • Please send an official note to school or call the school to notify us when your child is going to be absent
  • We review all attendance to determine what is excused and what is unexcused
  • Families with excessive tardies or absences will be contacted
  • Remember school attendance is carefully monitored by by our school, the Garvey District, the county of Los Angeles, and State of California.

Spotlight on Staff: Support Team @ Hillcrest

This week we are featuring our amazing Support Team consisting of:


Ms. Stephanie Ho (School Psychologist), Ms. Karin Salgin (School Counselor), Ms. Rocio Garcia (Behavior Intervention Assistant), Ms. Nanci Fuentes (Behavior Intervention Assistant)


These ladies really are Wonder Women. They provide students with emotional learning support, behavior support, counseling, and academic support. They come to work every day with a happy smile and immediately take on any challenge.


Our Support Team makes it possible for our school to respond to the needs of our 411 students. They also assist us with active supervision on the playgrounds at Recess and Lunch.
