Welcome Back Week begins Monday, August 7, 2023 as ALL FWISD staff members are to report back to work for a week of professional learning guided by Campus Administration and District Departments. Below you will find district information designed to "Welcome ALL FWISD Staff".
Hello Panther Family!
We hope you have enjoyed your time off this summer! As we diligently continue working on the master schedule, interviewing candidates to join our team, and preparing for the upcoming year, we pause to let each of you know that you are truly appreciated and valued as a member of our I. M. Terrell Panther family.
Summer break is almost over and we encourage you to begin the process of reconnecting to the upcoming school year.
- MMVC: During our Teacher Prep Week August 7-11, 2023, you will be asked to contemplate, discuss, and respond to our Mission, Motto, Vision, and Core beliefs. You will find this attached to this email.
- Our Campus Directory is filled with many talented educators and campus staff that make our campus not only a great place to work, but most importantly --a very special place for our apprentices. The faculty directory is housed in two places; on our website (public), and in a shared google spreadsheet (internal IMT staff use only).
There are three action items for everyone:
- Headshots and Bios: Send us an updated headshot and bio for our website using this FORM. This will be due by Friday, August 4, 2023.
- View the Faculty Directory and update your row of information as soon as possible and no later than Friday, August 4, 2023 for us to transfer what is needed to the campus website. This is an internal spreadsheet and is not to be shared.
- Email signature set-up: All employees should follow the FWISD instructions to update or create your email signature from your devices. Follow the link here for our district instructions. https://www.fwisd.org/emailsignature If you have done this previously, there are no updates to the district instructions.
- FLEX: Many of you are already engaged in your professional learning plan for the 2023-2024 school year, as these learning opportunities opened this summer. Newly hired teachers and returning teachers can learn more about earning your required FLEX hours by clicking on the Profession Learning picture below. Teachers must earn 18 hours of professional learning by April, 2024 in accordance with the FWISD FLEX initiative, or their compensation will be impacted.
- Our 2023-2024 bell schedule can be accessed through this link .
- Mr. Brown has shared our "campus calendar" through Outlook, please email him if you cannot access it.
- Panther Camp will be August 9, 2023 for freshman students and August 11, 2023 for all apprentices. Students and families will be present in the building.
- On Friday, August 11, 2023 from 11:00 AM-1:00PM, there will be a "Panther Family Social Hour" where we are inviting all grade levels and their families to campus to socialize in an informal setting. Food trucks will be available along with opportunities to advertise your clubs and organizations.
- A calendar invitation will be extended to everyone for the camp. Please let us know if you are able to join us in helping to welcome our students and families to the upcoming school year.
Your Course Preparation: The 2023-2024 Guide to Grade Reporting will serve as a guide to our grading policies and help as you construct your course syllabi. It is required that you align your grading policies to this FWISD Guide to Grade Reporting. As updates to this document are made available, we will keep you informed.
- Our expectations for your daily Lesson Plans are that you post them at least a week in advance using the Lesson Plan link in CANVAS.
- If you are newly hired, you will need to create your folder within your department.
- If you click on this hyperlink and do not have access, request access or email tania.white@fwisd.org and we will get you added.
- We will discuss expectations for what goes into your lesson plans by department.
- In addition to your course standards, it is required by TEA that you incorporate the English Language Proficiency Standards (ELPS) into each lesson. In summary, this means the students need to be given opportunities each class to read, write, listen, and speak in the context of your content. This is also just good teaching. We do expect to see evidence of the ELPS in your lesson plans.
Textbook orders will be finalized during Teacher Prep week.
- All textbook order requests need to be submitted through department chairs to administration by end-of-day Wednesday, August 9, 2023.
- If a textbook is not available in the book warehouse or is out-of-adoption, a funding source will need to be secured before we request a purchase order.
- Unless the textbooks are consumable, classroom sets should be ordered, kept in classrooms, inventoried regularly, and stored in a secure location during extended breaks.
More information is coming about where you will report on the District Days. Stay tuned! Email baldwin.brown@fwisd.org if you have any questions.
Let's support our Senior Class of 2024! Below are three very important links for seniors to register for a parking spot, submit a parking spot design request, and Senior Sunrise (our first event of the year--FRIDAY, August 11th @6:30 AM). Please forward this information on to the seniors you know to help get the word out!

Our seniors deserve our support and we look forward to having a great Senior Sunrise this year. See you there!!! ☺️
Introducing our new I. M. Terrell Academy Freshman Success Coach
Hello, Panther Family!
I am Roderick Reed-Pouncy, a born and raised Texan. I’ve been in education for 17 years and throughout my professional journey I have held various leadership roles and worked across all grade levels from elementary to high school. Most recently I was a high school administrator in Mansfield ISD.
In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, looking at new real estate developments, attending sporting events, playing Fantasy Football, and most importantly spending time with family and friends.
I am excited to be the Freshman Success Coach at I. M. Terrell Academy, a school with a great tradition and an even brighter future. My goals this upcoming year are to foster positive relationships with the apprentices, faculty, parents, and the community at large, while continuing to improve upon academic success. I look forward to a fruitful school year.
Fun Facts:
- I’ve been the commissioner of a 14 team Fantasy Football League for 17 years, currently there is a waiting list to join.
- I enjoy collecting and studying maps.
- I am die-hard San Francisco 49er fan; I try to attend one home game every season.
- I prefer documentaries over movies.
Panther Camp 2023
This year, Panther Camp will be held on August 9, 2023 and August 11, 2023. The goal of the camp is to help new students to our campus learn about the Terrell culture and expectations, get their schedules, become familiar with the campus, and take their student ID pictures prior to the start of the school year. Panther Camp will also be a time for students returning to the campus an opportunity to pick up their schedules and get a new student ID picture taken for the new school year. There is also a Panther Social scheduled on August 11, 2023 after schedules and IDs are completed. The social is designed to allow new and returning students and their families an opportunity to come to our campus, fellowship with one another, and play games as new relationships are developed.
We invite all faculty and staff to join in these events to help build a sense of family and community as we begin the 2023-24 school year!
Great news! Advisory classes have been determined and students will be divided up amongst teams. Advisory will be very different this school year as a result of district requirements of having 95-minutes of instruction time. More details will be provided during Welcome Back week on how Advisory assignments will be tied to the district MTSS initiative. Click here to get a printable copy of teacher Advisory assignments.
