ACPS Farm to School Month
Albemarle County Public Schools is celebrating Farm to School Month by featuring some locally grown and raised food items on our October menu! Our Child Nutrition Program is excited to partner with local distributors and growers to expand student access to fresh and nutritious meal options! The October menu will include:
๐ค Chicken from Shenandoah Valley Organics (Farmer Focus) in Shenandoah Valley, VA;
๐ Beef from Seven Hills Food in Lynchburg, VA;
๐ฅฌ๏ธ Kale from Kirby Farms in Mechanicsville, VA;
๐ฅ Potatoes from Puckette Farms in Gladys, VA; and
๐ Apples from Silver Creek & Seamansโ Orchards in Tyro, VA.
The Virginia Farm to School program helps students learn about the seasonality of food products, the importance of supporting local agriculture, and the benefits associated with reducing transportation costs and protecting farmland.
