SchoolCare is the system used by the clinic to check important health information about your students as well as for you to authorize treatment for your student if they don’t feel well during school hours. Homecoming is Saturday, September 16, 2023. Please see below for our spirit week leading up to homecoming. You can also donate snacks/drinks for homecoming by using the signupgenious link at the bottom of this newsletter.

Picture retake day will be Monday, September 25, 2023.

If your student has not been photographed by Lifetouch this year, they will be notified by Mrs. Veyette to sign up in the team office.

If your student has been photographed, and you would like your student's picture retaken, you will need to send your student to sign up with Mrs. Veyette. If you have purchased and received a packet, the packet will need to be returned on picture retake day.

Only students who are signed up will be photographed. Students who are not photographed will not be in the yearbook.

Safe Families for Children is an organization that helps families in need while decreasing the number of kids in the foster care system. You can learn more about this program at www.safe-families.org. They are available to help Brownsburg families by providing host families for those in crisis. You can also find information about how you can sign up to be a volunteer or a host family. Contact Counselors Miss Griffin (A-K) or Mr. Patterson (L-Z) if you’d like more information.

Counselors Miss Griffin and Mr. Patterson will be visiting classrooms to present September's character trait, RESPECT - value; to show value to oneself, others and the world.

• Lanyards and ID's should be worn properly throughout the day.

• Students are expected to get to all classes on time.
• Hats, hoods, and head coverings are not allowed to be worn during the school day.
  

Wearing a lanyard is a BHS expectation, and we believe lanyards, along with ID’s, help us provide a safe learning environment for our students and staff. We will be requiring all students to wear their lanyards around their neck with their ID properly displayed. Students who continually do not wear their lanyards properly displayed around their neck will begin to receive warnings followed by progressive consequences. Please encourage your student, as necessary, to properly wear their lanyards daily and all day.

Clothing should be so constructed and worn in a manner that is not unduly revealing. Tops that may NOT be worn include tank tops, muscle shirts, tube tops, halter tops, backless shirts, tops with spaghetti straps, sheer or fishnet shirts, and cut-offs or other tops which show midriff. Plunging neck lines and excessive exposure is not acceptable. Our gauge for necklines will be 4"; the length of four fingers. All shorts, skirts, and pants should not be unduly revealing, using the fingertip rule as a guide.

Students who are in violation of our BHS dress code will be sent to the team office to put on school-assigned attire or call a parent/guardian to bring them a change of clothes.

Hats, sweatbands, and bandanas are not to be worn in the building. Students who wear hooded sweatshirts are not permitted to wear the hoods. Any new "fads" in clothing or anything specifically covered in the above guidelines, which is considered inappropriate dress shall be dealt with at the discretion of an administrator/designee.

Videotaping or taking pictures of BHS students or staff without their consent is an “Acceptable Use Violation” and is against school policy. Multiple offenses could also be considered “harassment” or “bullying”. It is very important that all students and parents/guardians are aware that this type of violation could result in serious consequences. Please have this conversation with your student to make sure they are aware of this policy and expectation.

At the high school, we do not have a dedicated attendance line. When a student will be out for the day, please call the Team Office at 317-852-2258 Extension 1901, and Mrs. Veyette will mark the student's attendance.

When a student is leaving early for an appointment, please call the Team Office at 317-852-2258 Extension 1901 as early in the day as possible to let us know. We will send a pass to the student's class for their release. The student will sign out in the team office and then be allowed to leave the building through Door 1. For accuracy in attendance reporting, please call in appointments the day that they will occur. Because appointments can often change, we do not take notice of appointments in advance.

Only a guardian may call to release a student from school, but you may have anyone pick them up. There is no need to come into the building to sign them out, students sign themselves out.

When your student is at school and is not feeling well, they should report to the clinic to be seen by the school nurse. Following assessment by the nurse, the parent/guardian will be contacted if it is recommended that the student be dismissed. Please encourage your student to follow this procedure in the event they are ill at school.

There is a specific traffic pattern for BHS in the mornings and afternoons (see map below). All vehicles doing drop-offs and pick-ups must enter campus on the north side from Tilden and approach down Bulldog Blvd. While the entrance off of Odell looks open, that entrance is for staff arriving for work in the morning and for staff who return to the building from meetings or from teaching in other buildings in the afternoon. When parents or students try to enter off of Odell during drop-off and pick-up hours, it creates a traffic block that affects not only that entrance, but the entire campus. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

Team 2026 relies on communication and relationships to help you and your student feel supported and valued. We would like for every parent to meet at least one Team 2026 member in person. As we continue to get to know our parents and students, do not hesitate to request a meeting with a Team 2026 member.
