Message to Families from Dr. Hudson

Cedar Hill ISD Families
We are honored to provide a wide variety of options for your child's educational future through our Choose Your Seat program. If you are interested in enrolling your child in a choice program, we are accepting applications through January 19, 2023.
We have the academically accelerated Collegiate Pathway, which starts in Pre-K at Collegiate Prep Elementary and goes through middle school (Collegiate Academy) and graduation (College High School). Collegiate scholars attend Dallas College-Cedar Valley during their final two years of high school and earn their diploma and Associate’s Degree at the same time!
The Early College Academy (ECA) Program at Cedar Hill High School (CHHS) offers the same path to an Associate’s Degree, but scholars will take their college level courses at their own campus.
High Pointe Elementary is the new home of the Fine Arts Program where scholars experience a more in-depth curriculum in Music, Art and more.
Lake Ridge Elementary is proud to claim the district’s only Montessori Program, which runs through fifth grade. In the Montessori program, scholars gain independence through a self-paced curriculum.
Currently Enrolled in a Choice Program?
Scholars currently enrolled in a CHISD Choice Program will remain assigned to that program unless they no longer wish to remain in the program or if they are not invited to return due to “good standing” requirements. Parents who wish for their child to remain in the choice program, must secure their child's seat through their SchoolMint account. Families have until December 15 to complete the process, failure to do so could result in the child your child not having spot in the program next school year.
We encourage you to check out all of these programs and decide which one is the best fit for your scholar's educational experience.
Sincerely,
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Winter Weather Reminders
As the winter weather season approaches, the CHISD communications department is providing a
reminder on how and when school cancellations are shared with staff, families and the community.
- The CHISD Superintendent makes the final decision on whether to cancel classes & activities due to inclement weather.
- CHISD will handle all communications related to school cancellations, no action is needed by principals or department leaders.
Additional Information:
- CHISD communications shares weather information via email, phone calls, text messages,
social media, push notification via the mobile app, website and local news outlets.
- *NEW* Our new website (chisd.net) will feature a revamped SAFELonghorn page, that will
also list school cancellation information.
- In the event of potential winter weather, District officials start assessing road conditions at
4:00 a.m. This includes specific staff members driving bus routes and trouble spots.
- District leaders use forecast information from local and national weather experts, area road
conditions and speak with neighboring districts to help make a decision.
- School cancellation or delay decisions are made on a case by case basis after district officials
assess any impact on district operations.
- This decision will be made by 5:30 a.m. CHISD communications will share the information
with the Cedar Hill community.
- CHISD communications only notifies families of cancellations, we do not send notices
confirming we are having classes, use the rule : no news is good news.
