Happenings in our Community
Hometown Cleanup
This popular town wide tradition of community service helps keep our open spaces, parks, beaches conservation lands and neighborhoods beautiful. Families, neighbors, school groups, clubs, businesses and organizations all pitch in. Thank you for doing your part in the past and we hope you’ll join us again this year. If you’ve never done it before, don’t miss it this fall – it’s a good way to instill civic pride in our children and it’s fun.
The Town offers purple bags for collecting the litter and will pick up full bags from your drop location. Contact Patrick Farah at Town Hall at 508 747-1620 x10204 or pfarah@townhall.plymouth.ma.us. Let him know an area you’d like to clean up or he will suggest a group you can join.

Very Special Student Recognition
A 9th grade student at Plymouth South is being recognized for her work on an English class project on the other side of the country. Students in Mrs. Degelder's English classes at Plymouth South began the year with a focus on the "This Is Me" theme by taking a look who they are and how their life experiences shape them. As an extension of this, students were assigned a research project, asking them to take a look at a city outside of Massachusetts, similar in size to Plymouth, to examine the variety of experiences that we can have as Americans. For this project, students were also asked to e-mail a city or school leader or member of the media in the city or town upon which their research focused.
Freshman Ainsley Richardson chose to research Georgetown, Texas, where she reached out to the editor of the local paper, who not only answered her questions, but also had a few questions of his own for Ainsley. Ainsley's responses and a brief description of the project were published as part of an editorial in the Williamson County Sun.

Sharpen the saw
At this week's morning meeting, we talked about ways we can “Sharpen The Saw”, a few volunteers shared what the best book they read this summer was, and we celebrated September’s Leaders of the Month!
Here’s a few suggestions of questions you can ask your child tonight about this morning’s assembly:
*What are some ways you can calm yourself when you are feeling worried?
*How can you take care of your body to help yourself stay healthy?
*How do we show leadership at school?
*What does it mean to be a leader?

PLYMOUTH SOUTH ATHLETES OF THE WEEK
Congratulations! Jordan Colbert and Joe Flynn
Jordan Colbert - Field Hockey: The player of the week for Field hockey is Jordan Colbert. Jordan is a senior captain who plays center midfield for our team. Jordan consistently plays 110% both at practice and in games. She is also a true motivator- Even if the team is down, she looks for a way to pick them up. Jordan is a positive role-model for every player in the program and dominates in games due to her intense work ethic. As a midfielder, Jordan works hard both defensively and offensively, acts as a team player, and plays to win. Jordan has been a key player in every game so far this season and has kept us in reach of our opponents. Jordan is a true leader by example.
Joe Flynn - Golf G&G/PSHS Male Athlete of the Week: Joe Flynn is the player of the week for golf. Joe is a senior captain who has been on varsity for 4 years. He played outstanding golf last week to help lead the team to 3 more victories. Joe shot a one under 35 in a win to secure a tournament berth for team for the third consecutive year.
