Principal's Pen
Tomorrow is our 100 year celebration of Ridgeway Elementary! This celebration will be "open house" style from 2-4pm, with Mrs. Susan Fales (former principal) as the keynote speaker at 2:30pm. This speech will be the only event with a set time; the rest of the time, feel free to come and go as it fits your schedule.
We will have building tours, light refreshments, activities for kids, and collages set up in the gym with pictures/artifacts from the past 100 years. While we will have a few high school students volunteering at the event, you are still responsible for supervising your child(ren).
If you purchased any '23 Ridgeway apparel through the PTSA sale, those items will be available for pickup at the 100 Year Celebration. T-Shirts will also be available for purchase if you choose. These can be picked up at Fast Yowi at a later date, or you can choose to pay to have them shipped to your house. To preview the prices/designs, click this link. https://www.fastyowi.shop/ridgeway-rams. If you ordered a shirt for your child, but are unable to pick it up tomorrow, we will send it home with them next week.
PARKING: As you know, parking at Ridgeway is limited. The spaces behind the school as well as the lined lot at the Community Center across Grand Ave will be reserved for individuals with limited mobility. The unlined lot at the Community Center, as well as any street parking, will be available for everyone else. We appreciate your help in making sure all individuals are able to easily access the celebration.
We look forward to seeing many of you tomorrow!
Reminders:
The district is inviting all parents to participate in a culture and climate survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/M9KNKY9
5th grade families - Information regarding the lottery/transfer process for Jefferson Middle School is coming home in Friday Folders today (next week for those gone on the trip). Jeff’s principal, Jacob Adams, also sent an email directly to families of RWE 5th graders with information and the forms. Completed forms should be turned in at Ridgeway, not Jeff!
Club sheets went home in Friday Folders today - the things circled are the clubs your child is invited to participate in. Please pay special attention to the dates your child’s club meets, as some of them are not weekly clubs. You’ll also want to check where your child’s club will be dismissed so you know where to pick them up (if they aren’t going to Adventure Club).

Specialist News
From Ms. Felmlee - Learning Specialist
I am the new Learning Specialist at Ridgeway. I am excited to be working with the students here and getting to know everyone. I am here every day starting at 11:30. The students and I have taken time to get to know each other while learning.
As you are participating in the One Read this month practice attention to task skills. Be aware of items near you that could cause a distraction and use this time to model how to avoid letting them cause a distraction. Turn the TV off, move your cell phone away from you, sit in a comfortable area, and take the 10 minutes you are sharing the story to focus on reading and discussing with story aspects – characters, setting, and predictions.
Ridgeway One Read
I hope you are enjoying reading Regarding the Fountain with your family each night. It’s been fun hearing students talk about their fountain ideas, the silly names in the book, and their thoughts on how the plot will unfold. Thank you for taking time to read and have conversations about the book at home. If you haven’t started yet, there is plenty of time to catch up this weekend as there is no reading scheduled for Saturday or Sunday night. Also, know that if you have an occasional busy night and miss the reading, your child can come to the media center between 7:20-7:40 before school and I will read the previous night’s pages to them.
Please email me a photo of your family reading the book together. I would love to add it to our bulletin board. rmunsterman@cpsk12.org
Thanks! Mrs. Munsterman

National Prescription Drug Take Back Day
Saturday, October 28, 2023 | 10:00 am - 2:00 pm
The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications.
Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic. This day provides you the opportunity to clean out your medicine cabinets and turn in (safely and anonymously) your unwanted and unneeded medications.
Why is drug take back day important?
DEA's National Prescription Drug Take Back Day reflects DEA's commitment to Americans' safety and health, encouraging the public to remove unneeded medications from their homes as a measure of preventing medication misuse and opioid addiction from ever starting.
