Happy All Saints Day
Good Afternoon!
The glory of God is man fully alive, and the life of man is the vision of God. Happy All Saints Day!
Not only is All Saints Day a wonderful day of celebration in the Church, but it also marks the start of November. Whew!! October has been an action packed month! As I pop in and out of classrooms throughout the day, I am impressed with the industriousness of our students and teachers. Everyone is hard at work in the classrooms, and hard at play at recess!
Our 8th graders just finished reading The Outsiders, so we had "Outsiders Day" in the middle school last week. The students dressed as Outsiders characters, learned about what it was like living in the 1960's, listened to 60's music, and watched 60's TV shows. The highlights of the day were the car show and the drag race! Some friends of the school brought their cars by for the kids to see, and the students created their own "hot rods" to race in the parking lot. It was a fun day!
Our middle school students had a great opportunity to attend the Holy Fire Confirmation Retreat on Saturday which was hosted at Rose State college by NFCYM (National Federation for Catholic Youth Ministry). It was an awesome day full of singing, dancing, games, prayer, reflection, speakers, confession, Adoration, and Mass. This was a Catholic youth event like none other, and an amazing experience for our middle school students!
We also hosted Trunk-or-Treat on Saturday night. We moved the event into the Family Life Center due to the winter conditions outside. We had a great turnout, and everyone had a blast. Our PTO and volunteers did a tremendous job making this event a great experience for everyone. Thank you to everyone who volunteered! This SPN community is special!
Father Zak Boazman spoke with our middle schoolers at 3V time (Vocation, Virtue, & Vision) on Tuesday. That was a treat, because our students were able spend some time with Father Zak at the Holy Fire retreat on Saturday as well. We have had a 'big time' lineup of speakers at our 3V time this year, and we look forward to the next set of 'heavy hitters' that are due to speak in the coming months. 3V has been a great addition for our middle schoolers. The overall mission of our school is to draw the young souls entrusted to us closer to heaven every day. 3V time is aiding that mission, and has been a great tool to expose our students to vocation, and the virtues necessary to know, love, and serve our Lord in a more intimate way. Thank you Father Zak for pouring into our middle school students!
We will have an "out of uniform" day on Friday, November 3rd. We will be accepting donations of at least $2 to dress out of uniform. All donations will go directly to the Society St. Vincent DePaul at our Parish. The Society of St. Vincent DePaul is a worldwide organization of lay Catholics, following Christ's call to serve the poor, the suffering, and the deprived. AND... our former Principal, Mrs. Tener, has agreed to match our donations up to $1000! So, whatever we raise up to $1000, she will match that amount to donate to our parish Society of St. Vincent DePaul. THANK YOU Mrs. Tener for your generosity, and your continued commitment to our amazing parish and school!
Next Friday our middle school students will be in the Midwest City Veterans Day Parade, and we will host a Veterans Day Program for our families, parishioners, and veterans in the Family Life Center. There will be a cookie reception at 1:30pm, and the program will begin at 2:00pm. We hope to see you there!
