Principal's Point
Hello North Families,
Recently I took my family to dinner at a restaurant and looked around and was shocked at what I saw, I turned back and looked at my own family.
What shocked me was that almost everyone, including my own family, had their noses in a phone instead of engaging in conversation.
One of the biggest challenges facing parents today is how much time their children spend on electronic devices such as cell phones, tablets, video games, TV, and computers. It's an issue not just with older kids, many of whom are practically attached to a cell phone, but with younger children as well.
Recently one of our teachers started a fun activity for her class to help engage without tech. In the coming weeks, classroom teachers will be sending home a book and letter explaining this activity.
We hope you all participate.
Have a great weekend.
Sincerely,
Mr. Lugo

6 Easy Ways to Show Gratitude
Every Day
Studies show that consistently keeping track of what you are thankful for and acting on those feelings of appreciation can not only make you happier, but actually boost your immune system and keep you healthier. We’ve put together six super easy ways that you can show gratitude on a daily basis. Just remember to be consistent—this works best if you commit to showing your appreciation and gratitude every day, not just when things are going great.
1. Remember all the small details by keeping a gratitude journal. Start a collection of little grateful moments and literally watch all the good in your life pile up.
2. Next time, skip the email or text and verbalize your thanks to that awesome co-worker, teacher, or friend. Showing gratitude by verbally acknowledging someone can really make his or her day (and boost your own mood, too!).
3. Clean up after yourself, both in public and in private. If you leave a small trail of milk or sugar on the kitchen counter, wipe it up. This small act of kindness symbolizes that you respect other people’s space and are appreciative of your co-workers’ efforts to keep the communal space clean too.
4. Don’t complain for 24 hours. This might seem strange, but it will be scary to realize how quickly you might jump to complaints rather than solutions. Next time, try finding the good in a sticky situation.
5. This is going to sound old school, but a great way to show gratitude is by writing a thank you card (yes, writing by hand). This physical memento shows that you are truly appreciative of someone giving you his or her time and effort.
6. Your home is where you go to relax and unwind, so why not give back to your neighborhood? Nothing shows you care more than actually offering a helping hand.
Notes from the Nurse
February is American Heart Month! Every February, the country unites around a common mission: to bring awareness of the risk of heart disease and stroke with the goal of reducing the number of lives lost to its related illnesses. Often considered to be a condition for the older generation, heart disease and other associated illnesses are on the rise across all age groups. That’s why Heart Month is so important to us all. It’s a fantastic opportunity to find out more about the warning signs and symptoms as well as the things that we can do in our everyday lives to mitigate risk to our hearts. Obesity, lack of exercise, alcohol, smoking and high blood pressure are all things that people of all ages are affected by, but are all things we can do something about. To learn more, go to www.cdc.gov/heartdisease.
Panorama Student Survey
Noblesville Schools is committed to providing a great school experience for all students. To help achieve this we will use a platform called Panorama to survey students in grades 3-5 during the dates of February 28 - March 11, 2022. The Panorama survey seeks to gather input on topics like school climate and culture, emotion regulation, self-management, social awareness and belonging. When students feel connected to their school environment, they are more engaged and increasingly successful in both academic and social achievements. More information on the survey can be found here.
Although the survey is not mandatory, student perceptions will provide valuable insights for future planning, support and programming. Results will be used to determine needs based on trends for our school.
If you wish for your student to opt-out, you can submit an opt-out form. The survey is voluntary and students are welcome to choose an alternate activity (read, homework, etc.) at the time the survey is given.
If you have any questions regarding the survey, please contact our district counseling coordinator, Dana Nelson at (317) 773- 3171 or dana_nelson@nobl.k12.in.us
Thank you for your support of this important opportunity to best serve students and our school community.
