On Monday we held our REACH relaunch. For something different we weeded the nature trail and areas surrounding our school and replanted native trees along the river walkway. This initiative works in beautifully with our Kaitiakitanga theme- of guardianship and respect of our environment. It was wonderful to see students pulling out rubbish and the wild ginger, wandering dew and onion weed by the bag full along the banks of the Waiongana iti. The trail is a fantastic place for birdlife and would make a great weekend adventure for families, and view the newly planted tawa and kohekohe trees. Thank you to Mrs Rtichie for all your organisation around our REACH relaunch.
As a school our heartfelt thoughts go out to families affected by Friday's traumatic event in Christchurch.
As a school we have observed a moments silence for the victims and their families, and spoke of our REACH goal, and the importance of being inclusive and tolerant towards all.
Be assured as a staff we have discussed the impact this event may have had on students and have continued to keep routines as normal as possible, let students know they are safe and free to talk to teachers and kept an eye out for any change in behaviour. If you require support around discussing the issue with your child, educational neuroscience, Nathan Wallis has many thoughts. Our school council will be organising a fundraising event later next week, and this Friday candlelight vigils are being held in New Plymouth at Bowl of Brooklands 7pm.

REACH Goal
Week 8-10
Being inclusive, welcoming and respectful of everyone, no matter background, race or beliefs.
Today we meet one of our recently selected REACH reps. Introducing Erini Fruean.
Hello, my name is Erini, I am a Year 8 student. This year I have been selected as a REACH rep and am extremely proud to be so. I really wanted to be a REACH rep because, I love to be a leader and I enjoy constantly developing leadership skills. As the 3rd oldest of 7 children it is essential to develop patience, hardwork, and positive values. A leader I look up to is Albert Einstein, because, despite the fact that he had disabilities and was put down by others he was driven to succeed and looked for the good in others.
I am looking forward to excelling in this role, and using my leadership skills.
RJ Mason Transport Ltd Y1 & Y2
Meela Batten for tremendous home and school commitment to improve and amazing progress in reading and writing as a result. Always willing to help in the classroom.
Inglewood High School Y3 & Y4
Dylan Langridge for being a well-mannered, responsible, thoughtful, hardworking member of Pouakai B.
Superior Builders Taranaki
De-Ana Raven Rasmussen for showing the true meaning of Kaitiakitanga in caring for our school environment with enthusiasm and pride.
Students of the Week
Naki Plumbing and Gas Y7 & Y8
Rose Baker for consistently striving to meet classroom and learning demands, while maintaining a sense of humour and a helping hand.
Our school roll is currently is 327.

Parking Reminder
Dangerous Driving
We have a number of cars who are thoughtlessly parking in the Bus Stop to drop off their children. Please note that your details are forwarded to the Police. This is a no stopping zone. Naming and shaming is not our game but protecting and keeping students safe is, so consider your actions and the possible consequences. We thank all those parents who do the right thing and respect the safety of our students. Especially for parking well and using the crossings.
Recycled Bottle House (An Alternative Glass House)
This week the Enviro Crew have been working on the recycled bottle house with support and
guidance from Lorella Doherty and Mrs Ritchie. What we have found is we still need so many
bottles! If you have a connection or knowledge of a business where we can get 1.25 and
2.25 clear bottles, we would really appreciate it. Keep sending your bottles along to school
and help this project come to fruition/completion.
Plastic Free Lunchboxes
As a school, we are working hard to be more environmentally friendly and through our Kaitiakitanga Inquiry focus exploring ways to improve our environment. In doing so we are moving to eliminate plastics and non-recyclable material from lunchboxes. This can also be cheaper. So get ready to improve your cash flow! If you have some excellent ideas and would like to contribute to this project with ideas or promotions, contact Vicki Ritchie vicki.ritchie@inglewood.school.nz
