What a welcome relief to have some rainfall recently. This week we announced the REACH reps for the 2019 year. There were a high number of quality candidates, and selecting representatives for the Year groups was difficult. We are so lucky to have a fantastic number of students in our school who are leaders- whether they are a REACH rep or not. Congratulations to the following students who have been selected.
Colt Gardiner, Arana Walker, Ruby Gillett, Ava Baeyertz, Kaitlin Tee, Eliott Gilberd, Millah Tubby, Alex Young, Mya Theobald, Noah Dalliston, Hannah Cairns, Karli Doherty, Erini Fruean, Amber Storer, Roche Broadmore, Jasmine Dixon, Luke Doherty, Capri Peterson, Madison Tubby, Isabella Pepperell, Ayla Gyde and Julia Pearse.
This is an important role within the school and these students uphold our REACH values, but also drive many of our school initiatives. This Monday we have our REACH relaunch from 11am. This will be held on the nature trail this year, as students will 'give back' to the environment through weeding and the planting of native trees. If you could remind your child to wear closed in shoes that would be helpful. This fits nicely into our school wide theme 'Kaitiakitanga', care and guardianship for our local environment.
Paid Union Meetings
You may remember that teachers took strike action last year to send a message to the Government that more needed to be done to fix the teacher shortage and make teaching a more sustainable and attractive profession. Negotiations are continuing and as a result the week of March 18- 22 will see paid union meetings take place around Taranaki. These will take place during school time, however, we do not intend to close school, and programmes will run as normal. We greatly appreciate your continued support as we continue our campaign to ensure every child gets the best possible teaching and learning.

Reminder: Swimming Sports
Swimming sports are scheduled for Thursday 21 March. This event will begin at 10am for our 8 year olds to Intermediates. A programme will be posted to our facebook page early next week, but be aware that is only a guideline. If anyone is able to be a timer, or help out on the day, just let the office know thanks.
Parking Reminder
Dangerous Driving
We have a number of cars who are thoughtlessly parking in the Bus Stop to drop off their children. Please note that your details are forwarded to the Police. This is a no stopping zone. Naming and shaming is not our game but protecting and keeping students safe is, so consider your actions and the possible consequences. We thank all those parents who do the right thing and respect the safety of our students. Especially for parking well and using the crossings.
Recycled Bottle House (An Alternative Glass House)
This week the Enviro Crew have been working on the recycled bottle house with support and
guidance from Lorella Doherty and Mrs Ritchie. What we have found is we still need so many
bottles! If you have a connection or knowledge of a business where we can get 1.25 and
2.25 clear bottles, we would really appreciate it. Keep sending your bottles along to school
and help this project come to fruition/completion.
Plastic Free Lunchboxes
As a school, we are working hard to be more environmentally friendly and through our Kaitiakitanga Inquiry focus exploring ways to improve our environment. In doing so we are moving to eliminate plastics and non-recyclable material from lunchboxes. This can also be cheaper. So get ready to improve your cash flow! If you have some excellent ideas and would like to contribute to this project with ideas or promotions, contact Vicki Ritchie vicki.ritchie@inglewood.school.nz
