This week in school
COME ON BRAYTON!!
Best of luck to the Y5/6 football team tonight for their first match in years, and next week for their game against Longmans Hill.
Red Nose Day Thank you for all the donations sent in for Red Nose Day last week: we raised a grand total of £321.
Parents evenings The booking system has worked and we can see the schedule for the evenings! 24 hours before the appointment you should get a reminder which includes the link for your video appointment. Appointments are 10 minutes long and the system will automatically cut off at 10 minutes exactly, ready for the next appointment, so that everyone has their appointment on time. If the appointment seems to finish mid-sentence that is why!
Open classrooms Friday 8th April Because we are having the parents evenings by video call it is not so easy for you to be able to see your children's work. So that you can have a look at their books and their classroom, we are having an 'open classrooms' session on Friday 8th April from 2:45pm. You can visit your child's classroom, where they will be able to show you their work before we finish for the Easter break.
Easter Services Please join us at St Wilfrid's for our Easter Services on Thursday 7th April, for sharing the Easter story, singing and prayer. So we can fit the children and family members in, we have to do this twice over, with these timings for each class:
9.30am
Venus
Jupiter
Neptune
Mars
Pluto
Nebular
10.45am
Galaxy
Saturn
Earth
Asteroid
Constellation
If you would like to help us to walk up to church, please meet us on the green at 9:10am for the first service and 10:25am for the second. Thank you!
School uniform We have sent reminders out by text and email about school uniform this week. We understand that, after uniform was relaxed so much as part of the Covid arrangements, some children may not have clothing which is exactly as stated in our uniform list. We don't expect anyone to go out and buy brand new items to replace these right now; but from September as children are growing out of things, we will be expecting the appropriate school uniform and colours to be worn by all children every day. We do have stocks of second hand uniform which is in very good condition: just contact us via the office and we will help out.
Earrings To keep children safe and avoid any painful injuries, earrings must be removed for PE. If your child can't take their own earrings out, please make sure they are left at home on PE days. If you are not sure when PE is, then please check with the class teacher. We can't use tape or plasters as these are not considered safe by the School Sports Partnership and the NYCC Health and Safety team.
Free school meals: save up to £450 a year With so much in the news about the cost of living and now energy prices going up, you can check whether your child could be eligible for a free school meal, whatever school year they are in. All the information is on the NYCC website at https://www.northyorks.gov.uk/free-school-meals
If you would like any advice or support with this, please contact the school office. We treat these matters with complete confidentiality and are always happy to help if needed.
Thank you for your continued support.

I’d like to really encourage you to follow this link and watch Ukrainian Christians of all ages reading Psalm 31 in their bunkers.
It is deeply moving, not least because the words of Psalm 31 could not be more apt.
Thanks
Blessings

This week in classrooms
Our school values
Nursery - Stars
We have had a very artistic week this week, and have enjoyed creating Mothers’ Day cards and sunflowers for our whole school sunflower display. We have also explored watercolour paint and decorated butterflies and caterpillars. We have had great fun talking about our pets and what we need to do to look after them as well as learning more about growth through looking at the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
In phonics we have been looking at the initial sounds in words and matching objects that start with the same sound. In maths we have started learning about some 3D shapes.
Star of the Week - Zaine Hartnell
FS - Moon and Mercury
This week we focussed on the lovely true story 'One Plastic Bag' by Miranda Paul and we talked about the women of Gambia who learned to recycle the plastic in their village into reusable products. The children were so imaginative with the plastic bags you sent in and they created t-shirts, skirts, bags and bracelets.
We then shared another story ‘10 Things I Can Do to Help My World’ by Melanie Walsh. We discussed how we would try to remember to turn off the tap while brushing our teeth and how we can use both sides of the paper when writing and drawing. With these gentle reminders every day, we can all be kinder to the earth. The children wrote just one promise we could make to help save the world. Apologies if your child has become a little eco warrior!
In maths the children have continued to explore movement patterns that use movements more than once in each repeat. We have also focussed on correct language when exploring 3D shapes through their play and practical activities - solid, flat, curved, edge, surface, sphere, cylinder cone, cube and cuboid.
Our artist this half term is Monet. We experimented with colour and painted sunflowers as part of our art afternoon. These sunflowers will then be used to create a whole school sunflower display in the hall.
Finally, Mothering Sunday gave us a purpose to write letters home as a surprise for all of you wonderful mums and carers, their letters brought tears to our eyes.
We are so proud of your children!
Moon Star of the Week - Ruby Corbally
Mercury Star of the Week - Jordan Smallman
Y1 - Galaxy and Venus
We have had another busy week in Year One sharing the story of ‘Little Red’ by Bethan Woollvin. The children enjoyed getting into character and re-enacting freeze frames from the story. The children then wrote speech bubbles and used speech in their re-tells including different words for ‘said’. In maths we have investigated weight and used balance scales to compare and order. We baked delicious jam tarts to practise our ‘weighing’ skills. In DT, we have designed our moving picture and decided which mechanisms we would like to include. In Science, we continue to investigate our growing plants and observe the changes they have made. We have made beautiful Mother’s Day cards that the children will be bringing home today.
Stars of the Week:
Alex Yesil (Galaxy)
Jack Riley (Venus)
Year 2 / 3 Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune
We have enjoyed finishing our class novel, ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’, this week and finding out what happens to Grandma Kranky after she drinks George’s Medicine. We then used our imaginations to write an explanation of what our own marvellous medicines would do to Grandma with some hilarious results.
In RE, we made Mother’s Day cards and wrote beautiful prayers for the insides. We also made sunflowers for our whole school display and learnt about Monet during our art afternoon.
We have been fascinated by skeletons and muscles in science and we can now label a human skeleton. We were surprised to learn that babies have nearly 100 more bones than adults.
In Maths, we have finished our topic on fractions which we have really mastered; the Year 3s have even learnt about tenths as decimals. We have now begun learning about shape with the same enthusiasm.
Stars of the week:
Neptune- Alex Beaumont
Saturn- Harvey Halliwell
Jupiter- Frankie Clowrey
Year 4 Mars and Earth
We have enjoyed the conclusion to our class book, Beowulf and are in the process of planning a piece of writing about the great banquet held in celebration of Grendel’s demise.
In RE, we have explored the story of Palm Sunday and the triumphant entry into Jerusalem.
In our maths this week we have been building on our previous learning of tenths and decimal places and have been working with hundredths. We have also spent some time using the chrome books to practise our times tables, having fun with a range of maths games.
In art this week we have displayed our finest sketching & shading skills by creating some lovely sunflowers ready for our school display in support of Ukraine.
Stars of the week:
Earth - Persephone Hay
Mars - Lewis Huthart-Smith
Year 5 Asteroid and Pluto
This week has been a busy planning week in Year 5. We have written our plans for achieving our dreams; we have in our midst future footballers, rugby players, zoologists, vets, actors and scientists. these plans will be turned into stories next week. Decimals have been explored this week too, comparing ordering and even some sneaky addition!
In D&T we have started making our marble runs, using our plans and designs to ensure they are made as intended. We loved making sunflowers this week and even snuck in a Mother’s day surprise as our third and final arty project this week.
Enjoy the sunshine this weekend Year 5!
Stars of the week:
Asteroid: Josh Colley
Pluto: Evie Chamberlain
Year 6 Nebular and Constellation
Year 6 this week have continued with their Ancient Egyptian themed writing, transferring their writing skills from persuasive writing, to instructions - instructions for how to prepare a Pharaoh for the afterlife through the process of mummification. In maths, we have covered the properties of 2D and 3D shapes as the time has come for us to recover really important aspects of our learning in maths. In science we have continued our journey around the circulatory system - our latest stop - the lungs. Our models of Egyptian temples are now complete and are looking just like the blueprints which were created to help our designs. In our art afternoon, we also created some wonderful sunflowers to show our support to the people of Ukraine.
Stars of the week:
Nebular - Jessica Bradley
Constellation - Matthew Thompson
