21st June- 2nd July
It's been another fun-filled fortnight at Swinefleet Primary! We have been busy getting involved with the Monster Kickabout and started two new book clubs in Diamonds and Sapphires. As we get closer to the end of the school year, we are also looking forward to exciting events such as Transition day on Friday 9th July and our Sports Day on Tuesday 13th July. Our Key Stage Two production is well underway and we are getting ready for our Year six camp-out on Thursday 15th July.
Pearls
This fortnight in Pearls, we have been continuing our work on mini-beasts and talking about the importance of bees and how we can look after them and help them do their jobs. We have explored different flowers that bees like and learned about how they make honey in their bee hives, using nectar that they collect from the flowers. Last week we went on a bee hunt. We watched the busy bees as they hopped from flower to flower collecting pollen. This week we have designed, written instructions for, and built a 'Bumble Bee Cafe', a place for the bees to stop and rest on their busy day.
Rubies
Rubies have been busy cooking up a storm over the last two weeks! They have made pizzas and muffins with Incredible Edible and in their Design Technology lessons, they have been making delicious salads and learning about how different foods support healthy bodies. The children have also been busy learning to make seaside pictures and comic book strips on the computers. In Science, they have also loved making shadow puppets. The children in Year Two have been getting to know their new teacher for next year, Mr Pritchard, who has been popping in regularly to get to know everyone. He can't wait for transition day on 9th July!
Diamonds
Diamonds have had a busy fortnight too- they have been rescuing a bee who flew into their classroom, perfecting their archery skills with Miss Bish and learning about how sound travels in Science. They have been enjoying their class text of Mr Gum (written by Andy Stanton- one of the authors we were able to meet virtually). The children in Year Three have also had the opportunity to get to meet their new teacher for next year, Mr Pritchard.
Sapphires
In Sapphires, rehearsals for the production are well under way. Several scenes have already been filmed and our vocals warmed up. This week we found out that two members of our class have won prizes in a poetry competition run by the East Riding Library Service- we couldn't be prouder! We have also enjoyed taking part in the Monster Kickabout where we practiced our skills and goal celebrations. Check out them out on our Twitter page! @swinefleet_pr
Book Club
Last week was the first meeting of our new book clubs in Diamonds and Sapphires. In Diamonds we are reading The House with Chicken Legs by Sophie Anderson and in Sapphires we are reading The Day I Fell into a Fairytale by Ben Miller. Both titles are from authors we were able to meet through our virtual author talks a few weeks ago. We enjoyed some delicious treats and had some great conversations about the books. The children were all very excited to get a chance to talk about what they had read and we are so proud of them for joining in and sharing their ideas.
Here's a reminder of where we need to read up to:
The House with Chicken Legs:
Week 1: Friday 25th June - page 83
Week 2: Friday 2nd July- page 171
Week 3: Friday 9th July- page 245
Week 4: Friday 16th July- page 335
The Day I Fell into a Fairytale:
Week 1: Friday 25th June - read to chapter 5
Week 2: Friday 2nd July- read to chapter 10.
Week 3: Friday 9th July- read to chapter 15.
Week 4: Friday 16th July- read to the end.
Remember you can log your reads for book club on Seesaw and they count towards your weekly reading target!
This week we have been taking part in the Monster Kickabout 2021- the aim of the Monster Kickabout is to get as many children playing football as possible. We were lucky enough to win lots of football equipment from the organisers- we couldn't believe it when we received the parcel! We've loved taking part this week and will definitely keep up with our football practice!
