THE RPI PULSE
Your source for all things RPI...January 12, 2020
A quick note from the principals desk...
What a great first week back to school. Students were excited to get back into a routine, collaborate in highly engaging lessons and demonstrate RESPECT. PRIDE. INTEGRITY. The entire staff was proud of how the kids did last week and look forward to this last week of the semester.
Just a reminder that we have a half day this Friday, January 17 (records day to prepare for digital report cards) and Monday, January 20 (for professional development). Our next half day isn't until February 13 (right before Mid-Winter Break.)
As I mentioned last week, we are working to implement The Positivity Project. No matter what adult I talk to related to their school experience, the conversation either focuses one one of two experiences: either fond memories or a not so great experience. As an educator and person who truly cares for and loves all of our kids, that isn't acceptable anymore. Educators and researchers now recognize how essential (and critical) relationships that students have with one another and 1-2 trusting adults are to their success! However, we have either said or heard people say "oh man, middle school was horrible," right? What people are really saying is that this time, when students are trying to figure out who they are going to be, coupled with these awesome hormonal changes (kidding) are tough! And they are. Now add Instagram, SnapChat, TikTok and other social media outlets...our kids have it even tougher than we did.
Insert P2. Their mission (and ours at RPI) is simple: To empower America's youth to build positive relationships and become their best selves. Because "positive relationships are the cornerstone of health, happiness and resilience...and jobs of the future." (Mike Erwin, CEO/Founder of The Positivity Project).
Here is a more detailed parent information letter from The Positivity Project folks!
Have a great week everyone!
