The Dripping Springs High School girls’ cross country team placed third at the UIL 5A State Meet on Friday, Nov. 5, at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The Tigers totaled 86 points to match their best team finish in school history (2003).

The Tigers improved their standing throughout the race after sitting in sixth place after the first mile and in fourth place after two miles. Seniors Kate Ginther (8th) and Karsten Bobb (10th) paced the Tigers with top-10 finishes. Senior Marleena Mickel (22nd) and sophomores Rylea Bernhard (23rd) and Chandler Latham (29th) rounded out the team scoring. Freshman Alexa Velasco (68th) and junior Jesse Bookbinder (75th) completed the DSHS team.

Lucas Lovejoy High School won the state title with a team score of 65 points, edging out runner-up Boerne Champion by six points. Colleyville Heritage finished 11 points behind DSHS for fourth place.

The Tigers made their eighth consecutive appearance at the state meet and 11th overall. DSHS also finished in the top five in 2015 and 2020 with fourth-place showings.

Many Dripping Springs ISD campuses will be holding events to recognize Veterans Day on Thursday, Nov. 11. Veterans from all branches of military service, as well as families of students, are welcome to attend. Campus visitors should stop by the front office for a visitor’s badge. Dripping Springs High School senior distance runner Karsten Bobb has been named the Female Heisman High School Scholarship winner for the state of Texas.

The Heisman High School Scholarship program honors one male and one female in each state with winners earning $1,000 apiece. Seniors must maintain a weighted GPA of 3.0 or higher, be a proven leader and role model in their school and community, and have participated in at least one sport throughout high school.

Bobb was a four-year state qualifier for the DSHS girls’ cross country team. She placed 10th at the 2021 UIL State Meet to help the Tigers finish third, matching their best team finish in school history.

In October 2021, Bobb was recognized as one of 13 DSHS seniors to be named a Commended Scholar in the National Merit Scholarship program. Commended Scholars are among the 50,000 high scorers of more than 1.5 million students nationally who take the PSAT/NMSQT each year. She was also recognized as an AP Scholar with Distinction for averaging 3.5 or higher on all AP exams taken, and grades of 3 or higher on five or more tests.

In June 2020, Bobb was awarded a $2,030 grant by the Dripping Springs Education Foundation to create a “relaxation room” at DSHS for students to visit in times of stress and anxiety.

On Nov. 10, six Dripping Springs High School seniors signed National Letters of Intent to continue their athletic careers at the collegiate level: baseball players Brandon Arvidson and Aidan Perry, volleyball player Madi Lund, and lacrosse players Brendan Linan and Lucy Tyo. The Tiger volleyball team continued their run through the state playoffs on Tuesday with a 3-0 win over Alamo Heights High School in the regional quarterfinals. The eighth-ranked Tigers will take on Flour Bluff High School in the regional semifinals on Friday, Nov. 12, at 5 p.m. at the Northside ISD Sports Gym in San Antonio.

The Tiger football team will host Georgetown High School in the bi-district round of the playoffs on Friday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. at Tiger Stadium. The Tigers recorded their fourth undefeated (10-0) regular season in school history and reached 10 wins for just the fifth time (three of those coming since 2016). Dripping Springs, currently ranked sixth in 5A Division I, have won at least a share of the district championship for six straight years. Tickets for Friday's playoff game are $8 for adults and $5 for students and can either be purchased here or at the gate on Friday. All game day ticket purchases are $8. The game will be broadcast on KDRP (103.1 FM), kdrp.org, and on the Sun Radio app.

Parent University #1 "Parenting During a Pandemic: Regulating and Connecting Through Anxious Moments with your Child" will take place Tuesday, Nov. 16, at 5:30 p.m. via Zoom with Kamini Verma, LCSW-S, RPT-S. The "Parent University" program is a collaborative partnership between DSISD's mental health team, the Dripping Springs Education Foundation and the DSISD Council of PTAs.

The Dripping Springs ISD Bond Advisory Committee (BAC) is looking to fill two alternate positions. Those interested in applying for an alternate position can fill out the BAC application form here. The deadline to apply is Thursday, Nov. 11. The BAC is a nine-member committee appointed by the DSISD Board of Trustees that monitors the progress of 2018 bond projects. Responsibilities of the committee are: reviewing bond expenditures and timelines, reviewing possible scope changes and making recommendations to the board, and making semi-annual public reports to the board.
