Spring Term - 19th January 2023
Message from the Head of School
I am so pleased that we are now seeing visits take place once again. Visits to the library, All Saints church and the river Thames all add significant value to the children's learning experience and we are always very proud of how the children behave in these situations. Before attending a visit, the school always completes a risk assessment which includes road safety information. The school is situated on a very busy road and I have had a number of parents' raise concerns about children running into the road without looking. Please can you spend some time at home reminding your children about how to cross the road safely - it sounds simple but it could save their lives. There are two zebra crossings and we would request that all children use these to safely cross the road.
Our current whole school competition focuses on times tables. All children are involved in this event and will be competing in a number of rounds leading to a grand final on 9th February. Knowing your times tables is such a vital skill - please support your child by ensuring they practise as much as possible at home. TTRockstars is a great resource that all children can access.
Further information regarding the upcoming national teacher strikes will be sent to all parents on Monday.
I hope you have a lovely weekend.
Jon James

Messages from the Office
Please can you ensure that your child comes to school each day with everything they will need for the day (including any after school clubs). The office is incredibly busy and it is not always possible to take forgotten items to the classroom during the day.
To avoid disappointment of items getting to your child, please do double check each morning!
World Book Day - 2nd March 2023
If you have any old costumes at home which you no longer want, please could you consider donating them to HJS to be used by other children.
As World Book Day, coincides with any NEU industrial action, this date may be subject to change. We will of course communicate any changes.
Please bring these in before 24th February.
Extreme Reading Challenge
We are hosting a very exciting challenge called ‘Extreme Reading Challenge 2023’ and the winners will be announced on World Book Day, which is Thursday 2nd March, with some wonderful prizes up for grabs!
We would like you to get a photo of your child reading your books in unusual and out-of-the-ordinary places. An example could be up a climbing frame or on a trampoline (your child/children have been spoken to about being mindful of being safe and to check with an adult first). The more creative – the better. We would love for families to get involved as well so please feel free to join in too!
These photos will need to be uploaded to your child’s/ren’s Google Classroom and the deadline for this is Friday 3rd February.
All of the pictures will be added to a wonderful powerpoint of images and shown to the whole school, on World Book Day, for all to enjoy!
We cannot wait to see what weird and wonderful places your child/children are caught reading in.
As always, thank you for all your support.

Year 6 Teacher/Reading Champion
Year 4 News
4P enjoyed testing circuits to find out if they were complete or incomplete.
Year 6 News
As part of Year 6’s RE learning, 6C and 6L visited All Saints Hampton on Monday afternoon. The children discussed the different services that could take place at a church, were shown vicar’s clothing and created stain glass windows.
Both 6GK and 6G finished their final part of their DT project today linked to bridges. We have learnt a lot about the types of structures which are the most secure (eg- trusses) and using our plans made a selection of bridges which were very sturdy!
Well done all- great teamwork.
6L used everyday items to create "blood", and its four main components, whilst learning about their specific function in our body.
