Administrators' Message
Mrs. Lazaruik Principal
Mrs. Jennifer Erick Assistant Principal
Mr. Mark Chanasyk Assistant Principal
Welcome to the 2023-2024 school year! We have had a great first week connecting with students and getting into the daily routines. The whole school participated in our annual Welcome Back Assembly on Friday, September 8, 2023. This was an opportunity to welcome back our returning students, and issue a special welcome to our new grade 5 students, newly registered students and our international students. This was also an opportunity to introduce our staff who support every student each and every day to be successful. As well, we took the time to recognize that this is the final year for our grade 12 students, and a couple of our grade 12 students answered some questions that the grade 5 students had. This Tofield School tradition is a great way for our students to share their wisdom, and helps our grade 5s to learn more about the school from a student perspective.
Our Tofield athletics are up and running starting with golf and volleyball. We appreciate all of the staff and community members who volunteer their time to support our school teams. We have had a large number of students sign up for volleyball this season and would benefit from extra support. If you are interested in helping out please contact Marcel Flasha - mflasha@brsd.ab.ca
This newsletter includes a link to the Tofield School Handbook which helps everyone to be informed about our policies and procedures. Our Tofield School Website also has a great deal of helpful information, such as the daily and early dismissal bell schedules, upcoming events, BRSD Superintendency messages, access to the Parent Portal, school fee schedules, and so much more.
We have also included in this newsletter the Tofield School Behavior Matrix which outlines the behavioural expectations for all students, both in school and on the bus. Wherever we go, we are Titans and should be positive representatives of our Tofield School. We will continue recognizing those students each quarter who demonstrate the expected behavior with our Caught Being a Titan awards.
Routines are also very important to having a successful school year. Practicing classroom, hallway, gym, lab, bathroom, etc. routines so they become second nature is a focus of September. We will also be practicing evacuation routines in the next coming weeks! See if your student(s) can explain them to you!
Communication is very important to having a successful school year. Please always contact your child's teacher if you have questions or concerns. If you are needing additional support please contact administration - Mrs. Lazaruik grades 10-12, Northstar; Mr. Mark Chanasyk grades 7-9; Mrs. Erick grades 5-6. We welcome opportunities to continue to develop positive relationships with our students and their families.
Here is to a great 2023- 2024 school year! Go Titans GO!
Welcome New Staff!
We are happy to welcome quite a few new staff members to the Titan team for the 2023/2024 school year!
Mark Chanasyk
I grew up in Edmonton but have been in Battle River for 16 years and have been an administrator for 8 of those. My family is made up of my wife and two kids - my son and daughter. I love sports and games - all sports, but especially soccer, football, and hockey and I love learning - whether it is about math, or science, or people, or sports, I love learning new things. I look forward to working with students and families to make their time as a Titan the best it can be.
Kaden Doerksen
Hello, my name is Kaden Doerksen. I am teaching grade 7 and 8 math and science as well as grade 7 and 8 physical education. I live on an acreage just outside of Mundare. Some of my passions include hockey, baseball, bird watching, and geography. I also have a passion for math and science and I am very happy to be teaching those subjects this year.
Bradley Regehr
Hi, I'm Mr Regehr. This year I will be teaching a mix of senior and junior math and science. Last year I subbed for the division and taught at Hay Lakes. Having graduated from Tofield School this feels like a bit of homecoming and I appreciate the opportunity to teach here. I look forward to a great year teaching students of Tofield and the Edmonton Oilers winning the Stanley Cup.
Jenna Clark
Hello! My name is Jenna Clark and I am excited to be joining the Tofield School team teaching jr. high social and ELA and high school science. Although my husband and I currently live in Edmonton, I am originally from between Sherwood Park and Tofield. When not teaching, I enjoy working outside, hiking, reading, or spending time with family. I look forward to learning with my students this year and helping them find little wins every day!
Kyle Sieben
Hello! My name is Mr. S or Mr. Sieben. I teach grade 6. Outside of school, some of my favourite things to do are hiking, snowboarding, and lifting. Feel free to stop by room 302 in the elementary wing to say hello!
Sharnelle Umphrey
Hi everyone! My name is Sharnelle Umphrey and I'm teaching Grade 7 Foods/Esthetics, Grade 8 ELA/Social Studies this year. I live in Tofield with my family and many pets. When I'm not teaching I like to fill my time playing guitar, reading or trying out new recipes. Being a Titan has been a part of my identity since my own Grade 5 year and I'm so excited to continue that journey. Tofield School helped build me into the person I am today and I'm honoured to be a part of the teaching team.
Sarah Berglund
My name is Sarah Berglund and I am excited to be joining Tofield School this year and the junior high team.
As an educator I encourage my students to take risks in their learning, ask questions, and stay curious. I am also a strong believer in building a positive classroom environment in which the students can thrive.
When I am not in the classroom I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my niece and nephews. Sports have always been a big part of my life playing many sports through my childhood and continuing to play soccer in university. When I am not playing a sport you can often find me watching a game on TV. I, like many other Albertans, are counting down the days till hockey starts up again.
Navjot Dhillon
Hello! My name is Miss Dhillon. I am one of the junior high humanities teachers. I’m very excited to be teaching at Tofield School this school year. I was born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta. I love to cook new recipes, try new restaurants with my friends and watch copious amounts of Netflix during my free time. I am a huge fan of Harry Potter and rewatch all the movies during fall break. You can swing by and hav chit chat with me in room 208.
Alyssa Yuzdepski
Hi all! My name is Alyssa Yuzdepski, and I teach Cosmetology 10,20,30, Esthetics 8/9, and Math/Science 8. As a Journeyman Hairstylist, I am very excited to bring my knowledge to the program here at Tofield School. I grew up in a small town in Saskatchewan, so Tofield feels like home to me! When I'm not teaching, I spend time with my dogs, Walter and Doris, at the lake or hiking. I am grateful to be a part of the Tofield teaching team.
