Note from Dr. Mullenschlader
Happy Advent! This is the last newsletter before Christmas Break. While we have a partial week of school next week, the holiday season really ramps up this coming week. Parents are trying to get ready for Christmas, the elves are packing up Santa's sleigh, and the birth of Jesus is just around the corner. As a young dad, I remember something that my parish did on Christmas Eve that was just beautiful. After communion was finished, the church got very quiet and peaceful. The lights were dimmed and the a spotlight was now shown on the manger. Santa came from the side of Church and then knelt right by the baby Jesus as a recognition of the gift of Christmas. I will never forget that because it represented for our members of the faith that the spirit of Christmas, that is love, kindness, giving, and the humility of the baby Jesus, was alive in Santa Claus. One might ask, how? You only have to realize why Santa comes to our houses to understand it. Santa brings love, joy, and accomplishes it all through the gift of self. He spends all year for our children and all night on Christmas going from house to house giving, not thinking of himself, but only of the joy that he will brings to children. While he is nothing compared to Jesus, he doesn't need to be, he can be seen as a reflection of the love of the Father for all of us and I love that. For that reason, I look at that image of Santa kneeling at the manger and think fondly of what the birth of Christ means to all of us. Praise the Lord! Merry Christmas Everyone!
