DECA Program Makes Faribault Public Schools Proud
The DECA program recently competed in the District 1 Competition in Owatonna. The competition is the qualifier for March's state competition in Minneapolis. Faribault members won 17 gold medals for 1st place and finished with 32 overall medals and over 30 members qualifying for the state competition. Winning multiple medals were Joey Steinberg, Jillian Huberty, Anna DeMars, Owen Hanson, Ben Stoessel, Nell Gibbs, Aubrey Filan, and Cristian Escobar.
Our Faribault students stood out in the interview events winning 4 of the 16 sections and finished runner-up in 7 additional sections. Sections ranged from 12-17 competitors. Six of the runner-up competitors came in the Entry Level Interview, which is open to 9th and 10th graders. Head Advisor Jared Kegler said, “We had so many young members do an amazing job but fall just short of state. Hopefully it makes them hungry to win next year!”
Success for the Faribault DECA program has become the norm. Kegler added, “We lose key seniors that seem impossible to replace but each year new standouts join the program and returning members step up and take on leadership roles. We’ve gotten to the point we have been reloading each year instead of rebuilding.” The program recently received Thrive Awards, the highest award in DECA, for each of their chapter campaigns in Community Service, Promotion, Ethical Leadership, and Membership. Thrive Awards come with allocations to attend April’s International Career Development Conference in Anaheim, CA. Prior to the state competition, Faribault DECA will be competing in Round 2 of the Virtual Business Competition, the Stukent Social Media Marketing Challenge, and pursuing Gold Certifications for the School Based Enterprise Projects.

We're Using ParentSquare
ParentSquare is designed to keep parents and guardians informed on what their child is doing in school and better connect the school district staff to parents and families. It allows teachers and administrators to send text messages to parents/guardians that automatically translate into their preferred language as reported in Infinite Campus, and allows parents to respond to those messages.
Through ParentSquare, parents/guardians can:
Receive and respond to school and class information via text message
Reach out to their child’s teacher with questions or concerns via the app or web browser
See pictures, newsletters, flyers, files and other documents that teachers share
Watch this video: Parents—Getting Started to learn more.
Do Parents Have to Download the App?
Your child’s teachers will be able to send you text messages that automatically translate into your preferred language, even if you don't have the app or set up an account. You will then be able to reply to those messages through text message. You’ll be able to see and respond to the text message without downloading the ParentSquare app.
For other features, like signing up to volunteer or seeing a post, you will need to download the app (available for free for iOS and Android devices) or sign in to ParentSquare.com/signin on a web browser.
We encourage you to try ParentSquare and see what you think. If you have questions or would like to give us feedback on ParentSquare, please email communications@faribault.k12.mn.us.
