OCTOBER 2023 | GT PARENT UPDATE 🎃
GT Coaches + Classroom Teachers = GT Action Team
Your child’s GT Coach is working with a Knox County school to train one or more K-5 teachers about our Advancing Resources and how these resources may be used in their classrooms. These K-5 representatives are the school’s GT Action Team (GTAT). GTAT members implement that month’s strategy in their own classroom and then share it with their grade level team. This is a yearlong commitment.
Our first ever districtwide GT Action Team Collaboration Day was a huge success! We had over 20 K-2 teachers participate in an afternoon PD full of new learning, reviewing of GT resources, and collaborative planning with grade level peers from across the district. GT coaches also explored several types of thinking with teachers that directly tie into the KCS Team rubric. GTAT members left with ready to implement resources that they can share with their colleagues and immediately integrate into their classroom instruction.
Below is some feedback from teachers about the best part of their afternoon:
"Collaborating with teachers from other schools and learning how they used these strategies was very beneficial!"
"Looking at the types of thinking and having examples of different activities to help grow that type of thinking and hear how it works was great!"
"Hearing how others have used the different activities and just to hear from peers about how we could add this in to different parts of our classroom learning."
We are excited to offer another PD on January 24th for 3-5 GTAT members.
Brandy Heller and Kendra Thomas | Fourth Grade Teachers | West View Elementary
This month we would like to highlight the fourth grade teachers at West View Elementary! So far this school year, they have been collaborating with their GT Coach to determine the best placement for their kids. Together they analyzed current AIMsWeb and i-Ready data, along with last year’s data, to determine which students would benefit from GT services. We appreciate their willingness to be flexible and collaborate with their GT Coach! Thank you West View Elementary for always welcoming and being willing to work with your GT Coach to determine what is best for all kids.
