A NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Every month I will be sending the Thomson Tidbits newsletter to help keep you informed about what is happening at school and around the district. Please take a moment to read through this important information so you can stay informed. I look forward to working with all of you to give our Thomson students the best learning experience possible.
Most Sincerely,
Andrew Criswell
Proud Thomson Principal
Parent Pick-Up, Bus Tags and QR Codes! - Continued from August Tidbits!
Parent Pick-Up-
- Please have your ID ready
- Parent pick-up will take place in the gym
- The doors for parent pick-up will open at 3:15 and we will close doors at 3:30
- If you are running late, please call the office. Children can become nervous when they don't see you.
- If you are picking your child up before school is out, you MUST come to the office. Students will not be released to a parent unless the teacher is notified by the office.
- When signing your child out early, please:
- Have your ID
- Write the child's first and last name
- Write your name
- Write the reason for leaving early
Bus Tags & QR Codes-
Every child riding the bus MUST have a Bus Number tag in the pouch attached to his/her backpack everyday, or a Parent Pick-Up tag. With the new routing system, bus drivers will be scanning the QR Code which then prompts that child's stop in the route guidance system. Your child's tag should show the bus number on one side and name, address and room number on the other.
Thank you for your patience with busing the first couple weeks of school. Our bus drivers worked diligently to ensure accuracy with their bus route and in doing so, arrival times may have been delayed the first couple of days/weeks.
*If there are changes needed to your child's transportation, please complete a new transportation form and return it to Thomson as soon as possible. Transportation changes can take up to two weeks to process due to the rerouting that needs to be completed. Questions regarding busing should be directed to our Transportation Department 810-591-0816.
A FEW MORE REMINDERS:
- **REMEMBER** PLEASE INCLUDE ONE OF THE FOLLOWING. A BLUE PARENT PICK-UP TAG OR A BUS TAG! (see picture)
- If you are picking your up early, it must be before 3:00!
- Valet Parent Drop-Off- please stay in your car when you are dropping your child off in the morning.
Smile-Picture Day is Tuesday, September 12th!
This is just a reminder that ALL students will have their school picture taken on Tuesday, September 12th. If you wish to purchase pictures, please make sure your child has their picture order envelope returned to school no later than that Tuesday. You can also place an order online at www.photofactoryusa.com. Use online order code: thomson
A retake date will be established at a later time.

Hi families! My name is Mrs. Lints and I am your child's physical education teacher. I have been working at Thomson Elementary since 2009 teaching GSRP, kindergarten, and developmental kindergarten. This will be my third year teaching gym and it is my all time favorite! Your child will learn many things this year and will be introduced to many physical activities as well as team work and body/spatial awareness. I am looking forward to this year and working with your children. Remember a body in motion stays in motion!

Happy Reading!πππ
Welcome to the Thomson Media Center! During the month of September, we are going to continue working on Cardinal Code in the library, how to look for books on the shelves and how to take care of our books! Your child will be checking their first book out the week of September 5th! We will be reading some books with some of our favorite characters to illustrate rules of our library and will finish up the month reading about Johnny Appleseed and making a craft! Share the love of reading with your child and help them fill out their reading log that they can turn in for a prize! I look forward to getting to know your child this year and sharing my love of reading with them!
Happy Reading,
Mrs. Townsend - Media Center Para

Hello Thomson families! I am Ms. Wendy Lockrey and I teach STEM at Thomson and Central. This year I spend my mornings at Central and afternoons at Thomson. In my class students will use manipulatives to build and use engineering skills, in other words- we play! Students will also get to use iPADS and chromebook laptops with educational websites. I look forward to meeting and getting to know your Thomson Teddies this year! Because of traveling between two schools every day, the best way to contact me is to email me at: wlockrey@davisonschools.org
Looking forward to a great year,
:) Ms. Lockrey

Fall Intersession
School may have just started but we are already at work planning for the fall Intersession, which will be held Monday, October 30, through Thursday, November 2.
Intersession is an optional program for students to experience learning in a non-traditional environment. While some students prefer the break from school, we have a number of kids who like the routine of school and the opportunity to meet new friends in their grade levels from across the district.
There is a fee of $80 per student (maximum of $240 for students with four or more children) to help cover costs of instruction, field trips and materials.
At the elementary level (Developmental Kindergarten to grade four) the theme will be "Autumn Adventures." The week will include a nature scavenger hunt, learning about the life cycles of apples and pumpkins and the changing seasons and enjoying some apple and pumpkin recipes. Students will also have the opportunity to engage in crafts and make homemade bird feeders, leaf art and scarecrows. Last but not least, students will also investigate what happens to insects when the weather begins to cool. Special guest Genot Picor, a Native American storyteller, will also visit, and there will be field trips to the Flint Children's Center, Rollhaven Skate Center, Flushing Farms and the Williams Nature Center. The fall elementary intersession will be held at Central Elementary.
At the Middle Level Intersession, grades 5-8, the theme will be "Happy Fall, Y'all! Students will take a fall hike and participate in a scarecrow decorating contest at ForMar Nature Preserve, and take a field trip to Spicer's Orchard for a tractor ride to pick pumpkins and enjoy cider and donuts before coming back to school to decorate their pumpkins. The week's itinerary also includes a fall hike, leaf collecting, chromatography experiment and making tie-dye shirts at the Williams Nature Preserve and traveling to the Sloan Museum to see the Human Body exhibit.
Breakfast and lunch will be served free of charge each day for all intersession students.
Registration deadline is Tuesday, September 26.
We are still working on the high school intersession offerings and will share those with you once they are completed. Flyers for the KK-4th and 5th-8th grade Intersession programs are below.
