November 14, 2022
Dear Skokie Families:
We hope you have a wonderful and restful Thanksgiving holiday and fall break with friends and family. Please see below for a few updates before we head out for a week of rest, food and fun.
Student Absences
If students are absent for a day or two due to illness, students will check in with their teachers upon their return to catch up on missed assignments. This is a wonderful way for students to advocate for their learning. Please reach out to teachers for extended absences due to illness.
If students are out due to vacation/tournaments, please have your child check in with their teachers upon their return.
Morning Arrival
As the weather once again turns colder, we’re asking you to please drop off students closer to 8:15am and remind your children to walk or ride their bikes to wait to arrive until closer to 8:15am. We have several students arriving even before 8am and are having to wait a long time for the doors to open. We will be continuing to open the doors at 8:15am for students, with the exception of students who ride the buses and have no control over their arrival time and those participating in clubs/activities before school.
Exploring Skokie
Fifth grade Spanish: Students have started a story about a child named Chuy who has a disorganized room. Students love to share the state of their own rooms, and who normally is in charge of cleaning them. A favorite game to practice vocabulary is Textivate, and to review material is The Unfair Game. Some classes were also able to play a Spanish Halloween Go Fish game.
Sixth grade Spanish: We have moved on from our baby story to other fun and entertaining stories and scenarios in our classes. Students love to come up to the front of the room to act! As we continue to focus on comprehensible input, reading and listening comprehension are increasing. We have been working on illustrating and writing on white-erase-boards, continue listening to songs, and enjoy Señor Wooly videos. A favorite game is Gimkit. Students enjoyed a fun campfire story on Halloween.

Maneuvering the ever-changing landscape of technology, social media, and phones for students is a daunting task for any parents.
