Mr. K's 6-12 Weekly Update
August 27th, 2023
NEW ADDITION & SCHOOL PRIDE
WELCOME BACK MR. HOCKETT!!
I place "new" in quotations because Mr. Hockett is no stranger to the Parkston School District. He spent over a decade here as a business & computer teacher, golf, and basketball coach. After 3 years as a business professor up the road at Mitchell Tech, we are ECSTATIC to welcome him back to Parkston!!! In the classroom, Mr. Hockett's three years of experience in higher ed will pay huge dividends for our students as he helps prepare them for the next level in their education. As a coach, Mr. Hockett is settling in to his previous role as the Head Boys and Girls Golf coach. As you may remember he was quite successful in this role during his last stint! On the girls side, his teams won FOUR state championships over the last decade and his boys teams had an individual state champion and several high team finishes throughout the years. We are excited to see the strides he will make again with both programs. In the cold months, Mr. Hockett has also agreed to be our MS girls basketball coach. We are excited for him to bring his energy to that bunch as well.
Not only did we lure Mr. Hockett back to Parkston, but we also want to welcome his two kiddos to the Parkston school district at well! Tyler and Amber have two children that are attending Parkston this year. I have known Carlee (7th grade) and Tucker (4th) for many years and we are adding two rockstar students! If you haven't already, be sure to welcome Mr. Hockett and his family back to Parkston when you see them in the near future!
HOW ABOUT THAT SCHOOL SPIRIT?!
To end this week's newsletter, I have to acknowledge our student body. I have been SO impressed and proud of how they have come out and support one another in our first few athletic events. At our home football game last week vs. K-WL and at our first ROAD game at MVP, our students came and were heard!! It is so fun to see the school spirit, comradery, and support in the student section. KEEP IT UP! We encourage all of the students to come and support their fellow students at these events. Our first Home Volleyball game is tomorrow (Monday) night vs. Hanson. We hope to see everyone there supporting the team.
Next week I will provide an update on the new office and provide information on the Freshman Impact event we are hosting at our school at the end of Septemember.
That is all I have this week! I hope everyone has a POSITIVE & PRODUCTIVE week! - Mr. K
