WINTER CONCERTS
Roslyn Schools hosted a series of winter concerts in December,
showcasing the musical and vocal talents of students from across the district.
East Hills Winter Concert
Harbor Hill Winter Concert
Roslyn Middle School Winter Concert
Roslyn Middle School performed three evenings of music (hosted at the high school) beginning on December 5th, with music by the 6th grade orchestra, 6th grade band, and 7/8th grade band. On December 6th, the string ensemble, 7/8th grade orchestra, and 7/8th grade chorus performed. On December 13, the jazz band, chorale, and 6th-grade chorus performed.
Roslyn High School hosted two evenings of music. On December 11th, the Orchestra (String and Chamber), Jazz Choir, Mixed Chorus, and Chamber Singers performed. On December 12th, audiences enjoyed music by the Jazz Project, the Symphonic Band, and the Wind Ensemble.
Heights Toy Drive
As part of Heights commitment to community service, boxes were located in the school lobby to collect toys for Cohen’s Children’s Hospital. The charitable toy drive presented an excellent opportunity for students to learn about empathy, kindness, and the importance of giving back to those in need.
Holiday Singers
The Roslyn High School chorus paid a visit to Heights to sing holiday songs.
Fall Intramurals at East Hills
Fall intramurals are in full swing at East Hills Elementary School with arts & crafts, Robotics, and STEAM activities. Students enjoyed honing their art skills, while drawing fall trees, coding, building, and applying new skills to build obstacle courses.
Ring-a-String at East Hills
During a recent STEAM Lab, fourth graders at East Hills learned about sound by creating string telephones out of plastic cups, string, tape, and paper clips. Working as teams, they investigated three different factors: length of string, tightness of string, and width of string to see which would provide the best results. Students were delighted to learn how far their voices were able to travel.
5th Grade Cultural Artifact Share at Harbor Hill
Fifth-grade students at Harbor Hill Elementary School engaged in a cultural artifact share. Each student brought in a meaningful item representing their family's culture and presented it to the class. The goal was to foster a deeper understanding within the classroom community, encouraging students to explore their own cultures and learn about others with an open mind.
Code Party at Harbor Hill
Ms. Carolyn Tripoli's fifth-grade class celebrated their Hour of Code at Harbor Hill School by creating code for their very own dance party.
No Place for Hate at Roslyn Middle School
Roslyn Middle School students read the No Place for Hate pledge and signed the school-wide banner during their lunch periods.
RMS Students Make "Pawsitive" Impact
Stitching Love and Baking Joy for Shelter Pets
Students at Roslyn Middle School participated in a service learning project as part of the FACS (Family and Consumer Science) curriculum— taught by teachers Liza Mancia and Rachel Frescott. They used their sewing skills to create toys for cats and dogs and donated them to the North Shore Animal League in Port Washington. Sixth-grade students also baked healthy Pumpkin Oatmeal treats for the dogs at the shelter.
Career Day at Roslyn High School
Roslyn High School hosted its first-ever Career Day Inc. on Friday, December 1, 2023. Career Day Inc. is a day-long program that connects students with a variety of professionals to get them thinking about their future career choices. Over 50 presenters from diverse professional backgrounds participated in the day, which began with two keynote speakers. Michael Goldberg, founder and CEO of Walkalongside Leader spoke to the 11th and 12th graders; Josh York, Founder and CEO of GYMGUYZ addressed the 9th and 10th grade students.
Names, Not Numbers Project Launches at Roslyn High School
The kickoff to the Names, Not Numbers project at Roslyn High School was held on November 27, 2023, in the high school library. The project, conceived by Tova Fish-Rosenberg, a world renowned expert on Holocaust education, provides students with a powerful and unique experiential educational experience, while supporting the New York State social studies standards.
Thirty students from grades 9-12 were accepted into the program. Formed into five teams, each will create a documentary of a survivor’s story. Over the course of the project, students will learn valuable historical knowledge and develop crucial life skills, including communication, empathy, and critical thinking. They will learn to ask meaningful questions, listen actively, and gain a deeper appreciation for the resilience of the human spirit.
RHS Mock Trial Team Places First
The Roslyn High School mock trial team placed first at the 39th Annual Robert I. Bernstein SWS Mock Trial Tournament.
Robotic Surgeon Inspires RHS Students
NYU Chief of Thoracic Surgery Dr. Laurence Spier visited Roslyn High School to share innovative insights on robotic surgery with pre-med and robotics students. A pioneer in his field, Dr. Spier is one of only ten surgeons in the country presently performing robotic thoracic surgery.
An Egg-cellent Physics Lesson at RHS
Students in Mr. Alexander Huang's Roslyn High School general physics class had an egg-cellent time participating in their Egg Drop challenge. In exploration of multiple concepts in physics, students were tasked to collaborate, brainstorm, and design a contraption that would protect an egg from cracking when dropped from a considerable height. Using materials such as styrofoam, cotton, tape, rubber bands, and straws, students designed different ways to protect their egg from cracking during the drop.
World Language Honor Society Induction at RHS
On December 7, 2023, Roslyn High School held its World Language Honor Society Induction ceremony to recognize 71 new inductees. The Society recognizes excellence in world language studies and the commitment to study both language and culture.
Roslyn High School's first-ever podcasting website, RosPod, made its debut in late December. The site was built by students enrolled in the new podcasting elective. It features nine different podcasts, written, produced, recorded, and edited by RHS students in grades ranging 9-12.
