GENERAL ANNOUNCEMENTS
New: MSHSL AAA Award Winners Announced
Congratulations to Sophia Wang and Nathan Buckley who were selected as this year’s representatives from Eastview in this the Minnesota State High School League State AAA Award Competition. Established in 1988, the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award (Triple “A” Award) is sponsored by the Minnesota State High School League. The award is to recognize and honor high school seniors who have excelled in the classroom, on the athletic field, and in the fine arts. To be eligible for the Academics, Arts, and Athletics Award at Eastview High School a student must be a high school senior, have a strong academic background, have participated in League-sponsored athletics and fine arts activities, comply with the MSHSL’s Student Code of Conduct and be nominated by a staff member.
This year we had a very talented group of candidates reach “finalist” status, which made the selection process this year even more challenging. This is a great testament to the Eastview High Class of 2023 and the number of outstanding student leaders in the class.
Sophia participates in soccer and her athletics highlights include being a 4 time letter winner, receiving the Best Skills Award 2020, Best Passer 2021, Outstanding Academic Athlete 2022 and All-Section Academic Team 2022. In the Arts she is First Chair Alto Sax in Band and participated in Bravo 2019-21. She carries a 3.977 GPA, is on track to graduate Summa Cum Laude with Honors all while taking an extremely challenging academic load of Honors and AP classes. She is a National Merit Semi-Finalist and scored a perfect 36 on her ACT. At EVHS she is a member of the National Honor Society, has been a member of the math team and is vice president of the Chinese Club. Sophia plans to attend a four year university, but is undecided at this time.
Nathan is a multiple time letter winner in Cross Country and Track and Field. He served as team captain this Fall in Cross Country and has helped lead the team to four academic gold awards as a team. In the arts, Nathan is a 4 year member of Eastview Concert Bands, part of Percussion Ensemble and Pep Band and a two time letter winner in instrumental music. Academically, he has a 3.917 GPA taking an all AP/Honors courseload. At EVHS he is a 2 year member of National Honor Society, 3 year member of Spanish Honor Society, 2 years of being a LINC Leader, and 1 year member of Captains Council. At this time he is undecided on attending a larger school or staying in Minnesota to run Cross Country and Track.
Congrats again Sophia and Nathan; you will represent us all very well in the next level of competition and congrats again to all of our finalists!
Triple “A” Award recipients are selected by a multi-level process involving the League’s member schools and administrative regions. League officials will announce the four state award recipients (a girl and a boy from both a Class “A” and Class “AA” school) in March 2023. Each state award recipient will receive a four-year $1,000 scholarship.
