Welcome to a New Week
Spring is in the air! It has been a very busy few weeks at GIS, and we have some important updates. I'll highlight them here, but you can find more information below.
Important Updates:
- No After School Program on 4/21
- School spirit week is this week! Daily themes are below.
On Friday, we participated in a lockdown practice drill. We must practice throughout the year, have conversations with students about why we have these drills, and allow local responders to come in and give us feedback. Yesterday, we did an excellent job and received a gold star from the GI Sheriffs' Department.
School safety is on everyone's minds these days, and we work to implement appropriate measures to keep students and staff safe. In May, we will be practicing our evacuation drill, and I have been working closely with Assistant Fire Chief Joe Clark and Sheriff Ray Allen to ensure our plan is designed appropriately. These two local responders and their respective departments are critical resources to our school and me, and I can't thank them enough for their support. If you have questions about school safety, I would happily chat with you and answer what I can.
After our lockdown, the Sheriffs played a game of basketball with us! Thanks again for a great game! Pictures below!
Our Art and Music Extravaganza is moved to 5/17. This is a joint GIS and NH event, and 6th graders at NH have an event going on 5/19 which would exclude them from the extravaganza. We want all students involved and appreciate your flexibility with the date change.
Teachers have been working so hard to complete our last round of universal assessments, and WOW, our growth as a school has been mindblowing! More to come! If you see a teacher, give them a high five; their work supporting kids in the classroom is something we need to celebrate!
Alright- long update! More information is below about YOGI baseball, lacrosse clinics, and more!

Earth Day
Hello Grand Isle Families!
The Student Council is hosting a raffle in honor of Earth Day (April 22) and Green Up Day (May 6).
To participate, send a picture of your family taking part in something that will better our planet and community. Some examples are starting a garden, planting a tree/bush, creating/using a compost pile, cleaning up the sides of the roads/parking lots, or whatever feels good for your family!
You can send your pictures to Student Council Advisors Cathie Larson (clarson@gisu.org) and/or Sarah Allen (sallen@gisu.org) anytime between April 22 and May 7.
We will pick three names from a random drawing of all submissions on May 8. The winners will get a gift card to a local business!
Please email any questions to Cathie or Sarah.
Thank you,
The Student Council
