- No School for Preschool - Family Friday Event
Dear Preschool Families,
On Friday, October 13th, 2023 preschool students will not have school. However, we will be hosting a Family Friday trip to Wagner Farm located at 1510 Wagner Rd, Glenview IL 60026 from 12:45-1:45 pm. During the family event, you will have the opportunity to participate in a scavenger hunt that will be provided once you arrive. If you are planning on attending, please RSVP here by Wednesday, October 11th. Please note that parking is limited at Wagner Farm, so we recommend carpooling with other families if possible.
Please take a few minutes to complete this form to help us understand what you would like to learn more about and what additional resources will be the most helpful. Thank you for continuing to support your child's learning at home!
Thank you for your continued partnership and support!
Sincerely,
Barb Golik
Principal
Fall Festival and Costume Parades
Here you will find information regarding the Costume Parade at the Early Learning Center on Monday, October 31st.
We will not have volunteers in the building on this day. Our students will participate in fall themed activities during the day and we will adhere to District 63's guidelines and procedures centered on school health and safety. Healthy snacks will be offered and information regarding these is listed in the letter. Please DO NOT send in any candy, treats, or food items for students in your child's classroom. Any food items will be sent back home.
Notes from the Nurse
Fall has arrived! As we welcome all the seasonal changes, we are also preparing for the beginning of cold and flu season.
Here are a few tips to keep everyone healthy:
Wash hands frequently. Handwashing is an effective way to keep your family healthy. For kids, building handwashing skills can take practice. Remind your child to wash their hands after using the bathroom, before eating, after playing outside and after coughing, sneezing or blowing their nose.
Practice good hygiene. It’s important to teach your child not to spread germs. Have them practice coughing and sneezing into an elbow and remind them not to share food or drinks with friends.
Practice healthy habits. Your child’s immune system will be ready to fight colds if they eat a balanced diet, get plenty of sleep, and get regular exercise.
Keep your sick child at home. If your child is experiencing symptoms, keep them home from school. Remember, your child must stay home from school until 24 hours have passed since the last episode of vomiting or diarrhea. Your child must be fever-free for 24 hours, without the use of fever-reducing medication, prior to returning to school.
Sometimes despite our best efforts, our children can still get a cold. Children can get six to ten colds every year!
Here are some feel-better tips when they are feeling ill:
Encourage plenty of fluids. Offer warm drinks to help soothe coughs and sore throats while also clearing mucus.
Run a humidifier (a small, quiet machine that sprays fine cool mist in the air) to relieve a scratchy throat and stuffy nose. Humidifiers make room air moist, which loosens mucus.
Blow your nose frequently. Have your child blow their nose (it’s an important skill to learn) as it is the best way to get rid of mucus.
Encourage rest while their immune system is working hard to fight the illness.
Thank you for doing your part to keep our school community healthy!
Low-Income Heating Energy Assistance Program
The Low-Income Heating Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) will open for applications on October 2, 2023. There will be two priority groups for the upcoming Liheap season:
Priority group 1: Beginning October 2, households with a senior (60+), person(s) with a disability and families with children under the age of 6 can apply.
Priority group 2: Beginning November 1, households disconnected from one or both utilities or in danger of being disconnected from one or both utilities can apply for benefits.
Beginning December 1, all other qualifying households can apply. If you have any questions, you can reach the General Assistance department at 847-297-2510 x236.
REPORTING ABSENCES
If your child has to miss school due to illness or any other reason, please submit via the Parent Portal.
How to use the Parent Portal to report your child’s absence:
- All absences must be submitted on the morning of the day your child will miss school - NOT the night before. Once you log into the Portal, you’ll choose your child’s name and navigate to a list of online forms. Select and complete the “Absence Form,” and then submit.
- You can find detailed, step-by-step instructions at any time on our District 63 website.
