The Paw Print

Students who have already been issued an SMCPS computer will not need to turn in their computers over the summer. The expectation is that the computers will be issued to students who will have them to use throughout their educational career. Computers will be collected prior to high school graduation or when a student leaves SMCPS.

Students who have not been issued a school laptop and need one once we return students to a regular school schedule should plan to pick up a laptop at the school during regular school hours. This is very important especially for our current 8th graders who will need a computer for high school. Please contact Ms. Lowe, the media specialist, with any questions.

All families who were issued hotspots need to return them to Margaret Brent by the end of the school year (June 17). Please plan to drop them off in the main office between 8:00 and 3:00 PM.

On Friday afternoon, a letter was sent via email regarding the option of a Virtual Pathway program available during the 2021-2022 school year. SMCPS is providing a survey to determine who is interested in this program for next school year. The SMCPS Virtual program will offer courses for grades 3-12 and will utilize Schoology as the base platform, while incorporating synchronous sessions using video conferencing as well. While many students were able to work through online learning successfully during the 2020-2021 school year, others struggled. The summer program will serve three purposes, with the overarching goal of providing all students with access to recovery:

• closing learning gaps through recovery;

• accelerating learning for future success; and

• providing recovery services for special education students

Summer Recovery Information

The school expectations for earphones and phones have not changed. Phones should always be turned off during the school day and Airpods/earphones put away as well throughout the entire school day. We have found that many students are "hiding" the Airpods with their hats, hoodies, and hair and, as a result, not engaging in their classes. This is such a difficult year and it is so very important that students are focused in class without further distractions while the teachers try to get students caught up. I respectfully ask that parents/guardians speak with their child(ren) and support this expectation.
