September 20th: Back To School Night
This program is geared toward adults. Teachers will review methods of communication that they use to keep you updated on school events, what is being taught, and how your child is progressing. Teachers will also highlight some of the grade level curriculum standards to help answer the question, "What will my child be learning this year?" We will also help you know what students need to do in order to access Schoology. (There's a VIRTUAL DAY coming up on October 9th, and we want you to be prepared.)
If you need to bring your child, that is perfectly acceptable. Please just plan to have something that will keep children quietly engaged while you hear from the teacher(s).
Teachers will repeat information on the following schedule in order to allow parents who have multiple children visit several classrooms:
- 6:30 - 6:45
- 6:50 - 7:05
- 7:10 - 7:25
Our instructional resource teachers will be available in the cafeteria from 7:00 - 7:30 if you have questions about Schoology.
This site has answers to most of your technology-use questions.

On-line ordering is preferred, but for your convenience, a flyer will also be sent home with students this week that outlines the packages. All students will be photographed for school records. Purchasing photos is optional.
Cafeteria Bites
Students can only purchase snacks if they have sufficient funds in their account. Students will not be able to "charge" for snacks in the way that they are permitted to go into the negative for a meal purchase.
The "MySchoolBucks" account is the easiest way to fund student meal accounts and monitor what your child is purchasing.
If you have questions about this, please contact our Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Hamilton at kahamilton@smcps.org or by phone at 301-475-0250 ext. 2
PE: Bike Rodeo: October 18
Students in Grades 2 - 5 and a parent are invited to come out for a fun and informative bike rodeo! An adult must be present and transport the bike/scooter/helmet.
Sheriffs’ Deputies will be at school to demonstrate proper bike safety including how to wear a bike helmet and rules of the road. Students will be able to test out their new skills with a “Ride Around Cone Town” complete with STOP signs and other obstacles.
RSVP to Ms. Litten. ralitten@smcps.org
Notes from the Nurse: Flu Clinics
There will be no school-located flu clinics at the public schools this year, so parents/guardians are encouraged to bring their child to one of the community vaccination locations listed below:
- Great Mills High School
- Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
- Margaret Bent Middle School-Based Health Center
- Saturday, October 7, 2023 from 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Additional influenza vaccine clinics will be announced at a later date for children ages 18 and younger.
School Fundraisers and Boosterthon
Additionally, there are several school events that raise funds that go directly to the school. This document outlines the planned fundraisers for the 2023-24 school year and includes how the funds are supposed to be allocated.
If you have questions about our responsible use of funds, please contact Mrs. Jameson directly.
