North High Newsletter
March 2024
From the Principal
Greetings Viking Families,
We are nearing the end of 3rd quarter and students are working hard, staying active and planning for summer/future endeavors. Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for March 21st. Conferences will be in-person from 12-7 in the MPC.
Remember that we have free tutoring available 3:15-5pm Tuesday-Thursday in the Homework Helproom located in the School Library. Students also have access to an online tutoring platform called Paper, which they can access through Clever on their district issued iPad. Students may contact their Viking Time Teacher for more information.
Safety is our top priority and everyone’s responsibility. As such, we appreciate your support in reminding students that attending extracurricular sporting events and after school activities is a privilege. Students who are not in good standing (attending classes, completing work, and following expectations) may be restricted from these events. We want everyone at these events to exhibit what it means to be a Viking- Be Respectful, Responsible, and Accountable.
Also, we continue our partnership with the OPD K-9 Unit to assist with the detection of contraband at school. All of these measures are part of our ongoing effort to cultivate a positive, safe, and rigorous learning environment.
We look forward to warmer weather, spring sports/activities and all the celebratory events in the coming weeks and final months of the school year. Encourage students to get involved, stay engaged in class and finish strong.
As always we thank you for your continued support and involvement in the Viking Community. If you have any questions, please call us 531-299-2700.

Hall Sweeps
Los Barridos de Pasillo
Students are expected to be in class on time. Hall sweeps will occur during the school day either during classes or between classes, where administrators will assign either a lunch detention or a late school detention if students are out of area without valid passes. Administrators may contact parents as part of this process. Failure to serve the detention will result in further consequences.

PTSO Donation
Happy New Year! Please consider making a tax deductible donation to the Omaha North Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). We are most visible selling concessions during athletic events, but we also support students and staff behind the scenes. For example, last Friday we provided teachers and staff cookies and cocoa as the semester comes to a close. We’ve given over $3,500 to student organizations to support their activities, and supported and attended Student Council and Omaha North Foundation events. The list goes on. Any support you can give, regardless of how small, will be greatly appreciated. Please click the link below or scan the QR code below. Your donation is tax deductible & greatly appreciated!

Look at These Great Vikings!
Mr. Anton accompanied Azzie Carr to the AAAS (American Association for the Advancement of Science) conference where she presented her research on additive in manufactured stained glass and the chemistry behind it . She attended with several other Nebraska students and other students from all over the country. These students had the opportunity to go on scientific tours, talk to and get advice from established scientists, and present their research poster at the conference.
Congratulations to Joshua Bartsch, string bass, for earning the 2024 Nebraska Young Artist Award!
The Nebraska Young Artist Awards annually recognize Nebraska high school juniors who are talented in art, music, dance, theatre, or film and emerging media. During the past 26 years, we have recognized nearly 1,700 students from across the state. These students have been selected based on the quality of their art and were selected by our faculty to come to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln with their families as guests for a day of activities and awards ceremony.
