On Friday we conducted our fall ALICE drill. Our students and staff did a great job following our procedures and we debriefed after the drill. Thank you to the Chelmsford Police and Fire Departments for partnering with us. While we hope that we would never have to use these procedures, our preparedness is important to keeping a safe school. Officer Dan Sullivan and School Resource Dog Ozzie paid a visit to all our kindergarten classroom following our ALICE drill so Ozzie could say "Ruff-Ruff" Great job kids!

Our third graders visited the Garrison House in Chelmsford this week. The Garrison House is a Chelmsford treasure that has been hosting students for years as they learn about colonial Chelmsford history.

Coming up students will be continuing our Byam 3R weekly focus with ways to show the 3R Responsibility at the Recess location.

Every year third graders across the country receive dictionaries through the Rotary Club. This tradition has been long standing in Chelmsford. On Friday, member of the Chelmsford Rotary Club delivered dictionaries to our Byam third graders. Thank you so much for giving our students the gift of words.

Every month we will be focusing on a monthly character trait for students to exhibit in our school. The month of November we are looking for students to exhibit the character trait of "Fairness".

Dear Byam families,

Most families experience times of big change at some point or another in their life, such as moving to a new home, a parent beginning or ending a job, a separation or divorce, re-marriage or a loss in the family. When changes are on the horizon or currently happening, parents are often looking for ways to support their children as they process and adjust to the change. I would like to share an article with some practical strategies for supporting kids with change from the Big Life Journal blog by Ashley Cullins, called “7 Ways to Help Kids Cope with Big Life Changes”. I hope you will find it helpful in supporting your children with the changes you may experience in your own families.

Reminder families in need of assistance for the holidays should reach out to Lyndsey O'Neil, School Counselor, via email at oneill@chelmsford.k12.ma.us. A few local Chelmsford community programs generously provide help for the holidays and Lyndsey O'Neil can help coordinate this with any family in need.

Forms for Beacon Santa (due 10/30) Secret Santa (due 11/8) are attached at the bottom of this newsletter and paper copies are available in the main office at Byam. Mr. Fredette or Mrs. Dolan can sign any forms that require a staff member signature. Please note the individual deadlines for form submissions as they are approaching soon.
