Dear Families,

A huge thank you to the friends and family who came out to support our students at this year's Winter Concert. A great time was had by all and it was so much fun to see our Dual Immersion Spanish students teamming up with our music program. Kudos to our outstanding music director Ms. Rebeca Tamez and to our DL teachers Ms. Lindsay Olson, Mr. Oscar Lopez, and Ms. Pham who coordinated this fun evening. I will have some pictures in our next newsletter.

As we head into our final week before the Winter Break I wanted to remind families that Wednesday there is no after school homework help or tutoring due to a staff meeting our faculty will be attending. Friday we will be on a minimum day schedule and students will be dismissed at 12:44 PM.

HOLIDAY GRAM PARENT SALES

If a parent would like to purchase a holiday gram for their child, the ASB will be hosting a parent sale day on Monday, December 11. ASB will collect money and messages for the Frosty Holiday Grams only on Monday, 12/15. Please leave your student’s name, 5th period teacher, and a message you would like to include on the gram. Include one dollar for each gram. ASB will have an envelope in the front office to place your request.

TOTS AND PAWS TOY & FOOD DRIVE CONTINUES

Our ASB is also supporting a Tots and Paws toy drive and our Paws and Pals food drive. Any student who donates a toy for both pet and human are entered into a drawing to slime a teacher.

NO HOMEWORK HELP OR AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING ON WEDNESDAY, DEC 13

We wanted to make sure family are aware in advance that Pershing will not be hosting after school tutoring or homework help on Wednesday, Dec 13. The faculty will be participating in a staff meeting.

FRIDAY, DEC 15 IS A MINIMUM DAY

A reminder that Friday, Dec 15 we will be on a minimum day schedule. Students will be dismissed at 12:44 PM.

BABY PHOTOS OF 8TH GRADERS FOR THE YEARBOOK

Yearbook is now collecting 8th grade baby pictures. The first 100 photos that are submitted will be guaranteed to be in the yearbook this year. Unlike in past years, we will only be accepting digital photos. Please email your child’s photo to sruckle@sandi.net by December 15th. Be sure to include your students name (first and last) in the subject line so we can accurately identify the students. Any photos that we receive above the limit and/or after the deadline may not appear in the yearbook. If you have any questions, feel free to contact Ms. Ruckle.

Message from the Middle School Athletics Department on 12/7

Dear San Diego Unified Middle School Athletics Families,

On Monday, December 11, 2023, middle school athletic team rosters of the schools that completed two (2) days of tryouts will be posted on the San Diego Unified Middle School Athletics website (Top right select “Middle School Athletics”, “MSA Winter Rosters 2023-24”, select your school). Schools that were only able to complete one (1) day of tryouts will have their rosters posted within 24 hours of completion of their second tryout. Coaches have the option of holding an additional tryout if they so choose and will communicate this to their athletes.

Weeks 1 & 2 pool play game schedules with times and locations will also be posted on the website on Monday, December 18, 2023.

Each team will have two regularly scheduled practices per week: Middle School Winter 2024 Practice Schedule. If you do not see your middle school listed, it means there were not enough sign ups to field a team. If you see a box with an “X” in it, that indicates there is no practice on that day.

Practice upon our return from winter break will include a review of the following: NO PRACTICE DURING WINTER BREAK – December 16 - January 2

• Plans for uniform distribution and return of uniform
• Team expectations from the coach
• Commitment to game and practice schedule

Finalizing a roster is always a challenging time for every coach. If you have a specific question about the team roster, please reach out to Lonnie Jones, San Diego Unified Middle School Athletics Coordinator at ljones3@sandi.net.
