Cashless Meal Service: Snack Line Opens this week!
Students who are free/reduced lunch eligible MUST complete the forms every year.
The system is open and you can create a meal account and complete the free/reduced meal application if you believe your may qualify. (link above)
The governor did sign legislation to bring back the co-vid 19 era of free meals for everyone.
This will include:
One breakfast and one lunch per student (students will still need to swipe their ID for every meal)
A la carte, snack and second meals will be offered for a charge. We will still be cashless so please put money on your student's account if your student would want to purchase an extra lunch or snacks.
New Mass Communication System: Blackboard
The district has moved from Power School Messenger to Blackboard.
What does this mean for our families:
1. the email and phone contact data is still pulled from Power School so we continue to make sure that data is accurate and kept up to date
2. attendance calls will go out through Blackboard (unexcused absences)
3. Blackboard has a feature to over-ride a block in an emergency
4. Blackboard as a text message feature

Library Card Sign-Up Month 2023
September is Library Card Sign-up Month, a time when our West Bloomfield Public Library joins the American Library Association (ALA) and libraries nationwide to remind everyone about the valuable resources available with a library card.
From borrowing books, ebooks, and audiobooks to getting homework help, learning new skills, or attending a book club or story time, a library card helps everyone do more of what they enjoy. All without stretching their budget.
Since 1987, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September to mark the beginning of the school year. During the month, the ALA and libraries work together in a national effort to ensure every child signs up for their own library card.
There’s something for everyone at the WB Public Library, and signing up for a library card is the first step on the path to academic achievement and lifelong learning for students. It's elemental, really—everyone should have one!
The WB Public Library along with libraries everywhere, continues to adapt and expand services to meet the evolving needs of our community. To sign up for a library card or to learn more about the library’s resources and programs, please visit: https://www.wblib.org/

We are a LATEX free school

This includes, but is not limited to Tylenol, Tums, prescriptions, and Advil. Under no circumstances can a student be in possession of medication without the proper forms on file. Students possessing medication without the forms on file or distributing medication to other students will be subject to discipline following the district's Code of Conduct.
ONLY Emergency medication can be carried by students at school. Both forms below need to be completed for self carry
Cheer for 7th and 8th graders at WBMS
ALL students must be registered and CLEARED on Final Forms to participate in ANY sport.
My name is Tiauna West and I will be the Head Coach for the Cheerleading team at West Bloomfield Middle School this year. I usually go by Coach T or Coach West. A little bit about me, this is my fourth season coaching cheer. I coached for the Southfield Falcons for the past 3 seasons. I cheered at Harrison from 2015-2019 and led the team as captain from 2017-2019. This is my first year coaching at WBMS, and I’m really excited to get started and have a great season! I also substitute teach in the West Bloomfield district at the middle school and high school since last year so I'm pretty familiar with the district and there might be some faces I have seen before.
The fall sideline season this year will run from September 11th through November 2nd with the last football game on November 1st. Tryouts will be happening on Wednesday, Sept. 6th and Thursday, Sept. 7th from 3:30-5:30 pm. A short dance and cheer will be taught on Wednesday. On Thursday, students will perform the routines and have the opportunity to showcase any tumbling or gymnastics background that they have. Students must be signed up for FinalForms to be eligible to try out for the team.
Please let me know ahead of time if you/your student cannot make one of the days. Attending both days of tryouts is strongly encouraged so they have time to practice the dance and cheer and put their best foot forward, but I understand if someone is not able to come on one of the days. If they are only able to come one out of the two days, the student will have to learn the routines and perform all on the day they are able to attend. Results and the team roster will be posted no later than the end of the school day on Friday, Sept. 8th.
Practices for the fall sideline season will run Mondays - Thursdays starting right after school until 5:30 pm. Football games are on Wednesdays starting Sept. 27th. Transportation will be provided for away games but students have to arrange their ride home. The football schedule is below. When the games start, we will start practice on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. There will be no Friday practices. That’s all from me right now! Please let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to having a great season! Thank you all.

Gaggle
The WBSD continues its agreement with GAGGLE to support our efforts to keep students in our school safe from harm.
Gaggle is a student safety software that we will begin using on our platforms at the end of January 2023. Over 1,500 school districts across the country utilize gaggle to identify students who may be in crisis so appropriate staff members can contact parents and support the identified student.
Gaggle leverages a powerful combination of best-in-class artificial intelligence, machine learning, and a highly trained content review team to flag concerning content that K-12 students may be ingesting, receiving, or posting using school-provided devices and platforms, including Google Workspace for Education, Microsoft Office 365, Google Chat (formerly Google Hangouts), Microsoft Teams, and the Canvas learning management system. The tool is used by more than 1,500 school districts around the country to help identify and protect young children from threats of violence, self-harm, and suicide; child pornography, online predators, and sexual content; cyberbullying or other forms of online abuse; and drug or alcohol abuse.
Key points of this relationship include that only district owned and supported devices and platforms will be reviewed, the most serious content will be identified and shared with parents and the overall goal is the continued protection of all of our WBSD students.
If you have questions about this product or the district’s intentions, please reach out to any of the 3 WBMS administrators.

Backpack Procedure
Students are permitted to bring a backpack to and from school. We recommend the smallest backpack, for example a string bag be used or something that is easily foldable.
Backpacks and bags are to be kept in the students’ lockers and not carried from class to class during the day.
Backpacks that do not fit in the lockers can be kept in advisory classes
To assist students with keeping backpacks in lockers we recommend:
Only those things critical to school should be brought to school
Leave toys, and extra clothes/shoes at home
Students should remove things from their backpacks and place items in the locker to allow for the best use of space
We understand that female students may need to carry a small purse during the day with essential items
