Mustang Bulletin
August 7, 2023
Dear West Wing Parents and Guardians,
We had an amazing first week of school and we are excited for all that this year holds for our students! Our students practiced new classroom and cafeteria procedures and demonstrated our new school wide expectations! We are so proud of them!
Each Friday that we have a 2:00 pm early release our teachers meet in collaborative teams. On Friday, August 4, our teachers met in their collaborative teams to begin the process of answering the following questions:
- What do we want all students to know and be able to do? At the beginning stage teachers determine the essential AZ State Standards that they will focus on.
- How will we know students have mastered the sills? Teachers create common formative assessments to gauge students' mastery of the standards.
- What will we do if students have not learned? Teachers deliver an additional opportunity for students to master the skills if they have not demonstrated mastery.
- What do we do when students have already shown mastery? Teachers deliver enrichment opportunities and deepen students mastery of the standard.
Our teacher teams work diligently to ensure that each of our students is learning grade level standards and beyond!
Have a wonderful week,
Shelly Schubert

Follow The West Wing Way have Respect, Compassion and integrity!
We have had lots of learning as we set our new school-wide expectations this week. Many students earned Mustang Money for demonstrating respect, compassion, and integrity.
We are so fortunate to have such a supportive parent community that generously purchase items off of our school store wishlist. Please tap the image below to send items from our Mustang Store wishlist to support our Positive Behavior system! This year we will have a special Mustang Store for seventh and eighth graders only!
Excessive Heat Advisory
With an average high temperature of 105 degrees in August, and 100 degrees in September, we'll be dealing with extreme heat for several weeks. West Wing students will have indoor recess when Maricopa County is under Excessive Heat Advisory. Learn about DVUSD student and athlete safety precautions, and get tips to beat the heat from the Arizona Department of Health Services.

- Please respect our neighbors and use our arrival and dismissal procedures and avoid parking in the neighborhoods.

Thank you to Copper Hills Church and Well Coffee for providing our entire staff with a delicious full breakfast on our first day back! We appreciate all of your support throughout the years!
Campus and Student Safety Updates
- We welcomed our School Liaison Officers Terpening and Wroblewski this week. They spend time meeting our students and staff and also were present during arrival and dismissal.
- Please remember to follow our arrival and dismissal procedures. Pictures are below for your review. We are all responsible for ensuring a safe and orderly arrival and dismissal for our students and staff.
- If you are visiting the campus please be sure to bring your drivers license. All visitors coming on campus will now use their drivers license to scan in and print a visitor badge. All visitors must also sign out when they leave campus and return their visitor badge to the office. No visitor will be allowed on campus without scanning in using their driver's license. Thank you!
- Shade Structures have been ordered but not yet installed. We had hoped that they would be in for the start of school, but unfortunately we are still waiting. Students that are parent pick-up will be dismissed from inside the MPR. Extra patience is needed as we start the school year and our students get into a routine and we all become more efficient at dismissal time.
