Adrover Earns ITEEA Teacher Excellence Award
Congratulations to Longfellow Elementary School Gifted Services Teacher Anna Adrover on being awarded a 2023-24 Teacher Excellence Award by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association!
The Teacher Excellence Awards program was established to identify outstanding technology and engineering teachers deserving of recognition and who serve as models of excellence for their colleagues. It is one of the highest honors given to technology and engineering education classroom teachers at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.
Hummel Named Coach of the Year
Congratulations to North High School Volleyball Coach Rachel Hummel on being named the Eastern Dakota Conference Coach of the Year and the North Dakota High School Coaches Association Class A Volleyball Coach of the Year! Hummel's Spartans went 32-6 and finished fifth at the state tournament.
Agassiz Excellence Apple Awards
Agassiz recognized the great work of those involved in all of the programming in the building with the Agassiz Excellence Apple Awards. Individuals from each program were recognized by their program leads with short descriptions of the work they are doing. Staff Recognition Program Closes Next Friday
Community members are invited to nominate a deserving Fargo Public Schools teacher, administrator, or support staff member for the annual Staff Recognition Program. The program honors FPS staff members who serve our students with excellence. Online instructions, forms, and the application process can be found on the FPS website. Nomination forms will be accepted online until 4 p.m. next Friday, December 15.
Fargo Public Schools deeply values the nearly 2,000 staff members who ensure our students receive a high-quality education in a safe learning environment. To honor our employees, the District annually awards the following:
- Teacher of the Year Award − awarded to a certified staff member
- Administrator of the Year Award − awarded to a principal, assistant principal, director, or coordinator
- Support Staff of the Year Award − awarded to an educational support staff member, custodial/maintenance department staff member, or nutrition services staff member
North Musical - The Mystery of Edwin Drood Opens Tonight
North High School theatre presents the musical The Mystery of Edwin Drood opening tonight, Thursday December 7 and running through this Sunday, December 10 at North High School.
Based on Charles Dickens’ final unfinished novel, this hilarious whodunit invites the audience to solve its mystery by choosing the identity of the murderer. The tale is presented as a show-within-a-show, as the Music Hall Royale - a delightfully loony Victorian theatre company - presents Dickens’ brooding mystery.
Thursday-through-Saturday performances are at 7:30 p.m. with the Sunday performance at 2 p.m. Tickets are $8 for adults and $6 for students. Tickets are available at the Fargo Public Schools Box Office.

The Giving Tree
Fargo Public Schools Federal Credit Union is partnering with the Student Wellness and Family Facilitators of FPS to help district students and families in need with The Giving Tree.
Stop by either FPSFCU location (1609 32nd Avenue South or 415 4th Street North) and pick an ornament from The Giving Tree. Shop based on the tag you've chosen. Then wrap and return your presents with tag attached to either FPSFCU location no later than next Friday, December 15.
If you don't have time to go shopping, visit the Amazon Giving Tree Wishlist, and purchased items will be delivered directly to the FPSFCU.
Math Day
Noyce Fellowship Grant interns from Concordia College working under Mrs. Bertsch from North High School and Eric Paul from Moorhead High School put on a Concordia Math Day Competition at North High School. Freshman Algebra II students participated in competitions focusing on discrete mathematics topics like cryptography, map coloring, and guarding a gallery. T4 Summit
Ben Franklin Middle School eighth graders attended the T4 Summit workforce development program in Casselton. The students learned about careers that do not require a four-year degree and got to try welding, robotics, road construction, and even drive a tractor at Titan Machinery. Discovery Band Visit
The Discovery Middle School Honor Band traveled to Concordia College to work with Concordia Director of Bands Dr. Peter Haberman and the music education students. The middle school students had side-by-side rehearsals with the college students and learned about playing their music with more expression, balance, and blend. Gingerbread Yoga
The students in Ms. Edwards' STAAR class at Madison Elementary School added a holiday twist to their yoga time as they practiced Gingerbread Yoga. The class does yoga several times a week to practice self-regulation and de-escalation from big emotions. (Photo courtesy Lori Conmy)
Dental Screenings
M State Moorhead dental hygiene students visited Horace Mann-Roosevelt Elementary School to conduct dental screenings and administer fluoride varnish to students. HMR students with dental concerns were identified and recommended for future dental work. The M State students got a valuable opportunity to practice dental screenings. Door Decoration
The hallways at Clara Barton-Hawthorne Elementary School are festive and bright for the holiday season. The school's staff held a door decorating contest to inject some holiday cheer into the school. Voting was held to determine the winning door. (Photo courtesy Sadie Farquhar)

AFJROTC Competition
The FPS Air Force Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps placed second overall, second in the armed division, and second in the unarmed division at the Devil Dog 2023 Drill Competition hosted by Como Park High School in St. Paul. They finished first in the Armed Exhibition event, with second place finishes in Armed Inspection and First Year Armed Regulation. Mock Trial
As part of a unit on the Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe, eighth grade English students participated in mock trials of the story's narrator. In the story, the narrator has killed a man and hidden him under the floorboards and eventually confesses to his crime. The mock trial assumed the narrator has not confessed and is now standing before a judge. Students presented evidence and testimony before guest judges FPS Legal Counsel Tara Brandner and Discovery Assistant Principal Brandon Larson, who decided if the narrator was guilty or not guilty.
