EVHS is in need of caring adults to work as clerical substitutes (paraprofessionals) working directly with students throughout the school day. As a paraprofessional substitute, your primary task is to assist our teaching staff in the classroom to support students that need a little extra help throughout the day. Being a substitute allows you the flexibility of working when you have time in your personal schedule – this could be one day/week or five days/week. These positions are essential in order to provide the needed supports for students throughout the school day.

The clerical substitute requirements include:

• High school diploma

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical (paid for by the District)

• Must be able to pass a pre-employment background check (paid for by the applicant)

• Must complete a Personal Care Assistant Certificate of Training

• Must attend a new hire orientation

Students in District 196 will be provided breakfast and lunch at no cost during the 2021-22 school year due to a grant provided by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture. All families are still encouraged to complete an Educational Benefits Application, formerly the free and reduced-price meals application. Upon approval, these benefits are extended to Activities/Athletics fees and more. A new application must be submitted each year.

Masks Required on Buses and Inside Schools

State officials have given school districts the responsibility to determine COVID-19 mitigation strategies at the local level this school year. The 2021-22 COVID-19 Operational Plan for Families, Students and Visitors to Schools that was unanimously approved by our School Board on August 26 requires all students, staff and visitors in all District 196 buildings to wear a face mask indoors when the local transmission level is “substantial” or “high” as measured by the CDC transmission matrix. Currently, the transmission level in Dakota County is high, meaning face masks will be required in our schools to start the year, just as they are required to enter a growing number of businesses, government buildings and on all public transportation and airline flights.

Your partnership is critical to the success of our students. We expect students, staff and visitors to comply with the mask requirement, as outlined in Administrative Regulation 708.7, COVID-19 Masks, until the COVID-19 spread in Dakota County drops to the “moderate” level of transmission. Masks help reduce spread and give us the best opportunity to provide consistent in-person education all year. Just like last year, students will have opportunities for mask breaks during the day, such as at lunch or while outside. If parents and guardians are concerned about their child’s ability to safely wear a mask, they should refer back to Administrative Regulation 708.7 COVID-19 Masks.

Our district is committed to doing all we can to ensure students can continue learning in person this school year. This includes HEPA filters in all learning spaces, social distancing, recommending COVID-19 vaccinations for those who are eligible to receive them and requiring masks when the local transmission level is substantial or high.

Review and Update Emergency Information

If you haven’t already done so, please update your family’s information on record with the district by completing the online review in your Infinite Campus Parent portal account. This is the one time each year the district asks parents to complete the review to ensure schools have up-to-date contact information, emergency contacts, student health records and more. It is important for schools to have current information in order to be notified in case of emergency, changes in the school schedule and to receive regular communication from the schools and district.

All District 196 parents and guardians are encouraged to have an Infinite Campus Parent account of their own to stay involved in their child’s education, and to access end-of-term report cards, transcripts, attendance and other important information. Parents who do not have their own Infinite Campus Parent account can request an activation key from the office at their child’s school. For information on setting up an Infinite Campus Parent account and completing the online review, visit the Family Resources page on our district website.

ATTENTION, PARENTS OF SENIORS. The Senior Parent College Application Planning Night will be held on Monday, September 20th at 6:30 pm in the EVHS Performing Arts Center (enter EVHS through Door #8 on the north side of EVHS). This parent presentation will include important topics related to the college application and admission process, sending materials and transcripts, and a timeline for senior year. The presentation slides will also be posted to our EVHS Counseling web page the following day. Additional information for college planning can be found on our website by clicking here.

On WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 13, 2021, Juniors at EVHS are encouraged to take the PSAT/NMSQT exam. (High achieving Sophomores are also encouraged to take the PSAT as practice only.) The PSAT (Preliminary Scholastic Aptitude Test) provides feedback about college-readiness, is excellent practice for the SAT, and is also used by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation to determine National Merit Scholarship recipients in the class of 2023.

Test Date: Wednesday, October 13, 2021

Time: 8:00-11:45 a.m.

Location: Eastview High School

Registration opens Wednesday, September 8th and closes Wednesday, September 27th, or when registration is full.

The cost is $25.00. Registration and payment must be made through MyPaymentsPlus.

IMPORTANT: After you have registered, you must come to the Counseling office during 5th period to see Suze Fulford. She will verify your PSAT registration and payment and you will be able to pick up your PSAT Official Student Guide. Your test site location will be communicated via email by Thursday, October 7th.

Students should stop by the Counseling Office and get a pass to attend the college/university/military Rep Visit prior to the right visit. These university/college or military visits are small group meetings typically lasting 20-30 minutes. These admission reps are often times the same people that review college applications, so it's a great connection for students.

We are looking to add more girls to our team! We are a coop team with Apple Valley High School and would love to build our team even more. Our girls focus on building a community centered around gymnastics. If you love tumbling, competition, and fun team building activities, then this is the spot for you! Events coming up are apple picking & fall photos, pumpkin carving contest, Friendsgiving and more! The Start time for fall super group is 2:45pm- meet outside the north west end of the indoor track. End time is about 4:15pm.

VARSITY SPORTS

GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS - September 16th

The Eastview Girls Cross Country Team participated at the Rochester Mayo invitational yesterday. JV ran first placing 5th overall as a team. Brigid Coyne, Elsie Warren. Sam Artwohl, Morgan Brown had big PR’s. The Varsity team was led by Emily Percival, Hadley Knight and Sonja Olson who placed in the top 20. The Varsity team was third overall out of the 20 team field.

BOYS CROSS COUNTRY RESULTS- MAYO INVITATIONAL September 16th

On a warm sunny afternoon the boys cross country team competed at the Mayo Invitational today. The varsity team finished in 5th place out of 24 teams, and the JV team finished in 4th place out of 17 teams.

In the JV race the team took a strong position at the start of the race, placing themselves at the front end of the chase pack. Leading this group was junior Thomas Adamson who lead the Lightning squad through the first 4,000m of the race, only to be overtaken by senior teammate Alex Breimhurst on the final downhill of the race. Breimhurst finished in a new personal best time, breaking 19:00 for the first time and finishing in 14th place. Adamson finished in 17th place. The other members of the scoring team for the JV athletes were junior Charley Setterlund in 23rd place, junior Eli Munson in 28th place, and senior Ryan Brandel in 34th place. Freshman Eli Zillhardt had a big PR today, running 40 seconds faster than he has previously.

In the varsity race the Lightning were lead by the senior duo of Hunter Dunne and Nate Getman who finished in 14th and 15th place overall. These two lost contact with the lead pack after the first 1,000m, but stuck together to keep the gap at the front of the race from growing, and put on a huge surge over the final 600m to catch members of this pack that had fallen off. Senior PJ Lasota had a strong performance to maintain his positioning in the midst of the second chase pack to finish in 32nd place. Seniors Max Leach and Ethan Agoranos rounded out the top 5 for the Lightning.

GIRLS VARSITY TENNIS ON 3-MATCH WINNING STREAK

The girls Varsity tennis has put together a 3 match winning streak defeating Prior Lake, Rosemount, and Farmington the team is working hard and improving every day. Next week is a busy week for the Lightning with four matches; three at home.

There will be an informational meeting for Business Professionals of America on Thursday, September 23rd at either 7:00 a.m. or 2:45 p.m. in room C239. If you are enrolled in a business course sometime this school year and have a desire to meet new people and learn more about business, please join us! There will be a general informational meeting for those that are interested in joining DECA on Wednesday, September 22 at 2:30 in C237. DECA is a marketing organization that combines leadership training and competitive events at the local, state and national levels. Stop in for this short meeting on the 22nd to find out more about DECA and how you can get involved.

The climate action club (formerly LEAP) will have its first meeting on Thursday, Sept. 23rd at 2:35 pm in C337. We will focus on actions that students can take to help reduce climate change. Everyone is welcome!!!

Looking for a fun way to earn some extra money and make an impact on lots of children in our community? The Community Education Aquatics Program is looking for those that are comfortable with their own swimming abilities to help teach swim lessons.
