Our 5th Grade will be having an awards ceremony May 23 at 10:30AM. Parents are welcome. It will take place in the cafeteria. The other grades will be giving grade level appropriate awards in their classrooms. The students will bring them home with their grade cards.

The students at NCES are able to receive positive referrals from staff for going above and beyond. We are so proud of our students who have earned positive referrals during the month.

When students receive a positive referral their photo is taken, the receive a bracelet, candy or a pencil. Additionally, students receiving positive referrals are honored as we hang their photo in the hallway of each student receiving a positive office referral and these students are also honored on our morning announcements which can be viewed on our Youtube channel, and their pictures scroll on the TV in the office. It is really exciting for our students.

WAY TO GO KIDS!!!! You are the good example for others! Keep it up the great work.

We have recently had an influx of students texting parents on their phones, or watches to come and pick them up from school. It is very important for students to be at school. Please remind your child they need to communicate to the teacher first. If a student does not feel well our process is , the teacher will send the student to the nurse. There, the nurse will check the student out thoroughly. If they are to remain at school they will be sent back to class. If they need to go home the parents will be notified bby the nurse to come pick the child up from school. Please help us communicate the same message to your child. Everything needing to go through the office staff. If you choose to pick your child up and they have not been seen in the clinic or the nurse did not choose to send them home, the student will not have an excused absence. If you have any questions please call the office and we can help.

Parents, we will be having Field Day May 24th. Mrs. Russell will be sending home information about what the day entails. The fourth and fifth grades will be in the first half off the day. The second and third grade will be in the afternoon. It will be a great day for students to enjoy the outside, and spend time with their friends. Make sure to sunscreen your child, or send it in with them. You could also send them in a water bottle to use for the day. We will also be providing the water and the fun!

Safer Ohio School Tip Line

The Safer Ohio School Tip Line is a free safety resource available to all Ohio schools. The tip line is an anonymous reporting system that accepts both calls and texts 24 hours a day.

This tip line allows students and adults to anonymously share information with school officials and law enforcement about threats to student safety—whether that involves a threatened mass incident or harm to a single student.

Things to report to the tip line include (but are not limited to):

• Bullying incidents;

• Withdrawn student behaviors;

• Verbal or written threats observed toward students, faculty or schools;

• Weapon/suspicious devices on or near school grounds;

• Gang related activities;

• Unusual/suspicious behavior of students or staff;

• Self-harm or suicidal sentiments; and

• Any other school safety related concerns.

Every tip can remain anonymous. School safety analysts may ask for additional information, but the caller can remain secret or leave his or her contact information for later follow-up.

Calls or texts to 844-SaferOH (844-723-3764) are answered by analysts within Ohio Homeland Security. If action is needed, the analysts immediately forward information to local school officials, law enforcement agencies and the Ohio School Safety Center (OSSC) for action and follow up.

The OSSC partners with the Ohio Department of Education to follow up with affected school and law enforcement agencies to make sure that the incident is investigated, action is taken and resources and supports are provided when necessary.

The Education Connection is a telephone number that you can call 24-hours a day to listen to your child’s homework assignments, report your child’s absence, hear the lunch menu, find out the scores of the big game, hear about school closings and leave a private message for a staff member.

You will still need to call your child in if they will not be attending school, or doing their online work for the day. We will still need to document attendance. We are marking students with green, yellow and red attendance.

Final Meeting for the year will be May 15.
