HALLOWEEN COSTUMES ON OCT 31ST
A reminder students may wear costumes to school on Monday, October 31st but all students must adhere to our normal dress code guidelines as well as these additional guidelines:
- Masks or make-up that conceal the entire face or prevent staff from identifying students are not allowed
- Weapons, pretend or real, are not allowed including but not limited to guns, knives, swords, sabers, etc.
- Costumes cannot promote violence, drugs, alcohol, or any inappropriate behavior
- Costumes that may offend others due to race, culture, gender, religion, or sexual orientation are not permitted
- Costume should not include items with sound effects, lights, or other components which would disrupt the classroom learning environment
- And finally, costume must not inhibit the ability of a student to participate fully in all classes
For any Panthers chosing to go trick or treating on Monday Night we want you to have fun, be safe, and keep your candy at home on Tuesday :)

STAFF MENTOR PROGRAM
In an effort to continue to provide innovative ways to support our students' academic success we have implemented a staff mentor program. If a student had multiple D or F grades on the first progress reports they were assigned a staff mentor who will work with the student to help get them back on track. Each mentor has 1-2 students they they will be meeting with weekly. The goal is to provide students with an additional trusted adult who is keeping an eye on their progress and who the student knows they can rely on for academic support.
FIRST RJP PARENT WORKSHOPS ON NOV 1st @6:00 PM in the Pershing Auditorium
Parents are you interested in learning more about what restorative practices are and how we utilize them at Pershing? In collaboration with our Leadership and Learning Department we will be hosting our first of three parent workshops around this topic. The meetings will be held in person at Pershing Middle School on Nov 1, Dec 6, and Feb 7 @6:00 PM. We hope you will be able to attend.
WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 2ND IS MAKE-UP PICTURE DAY
A reminder that student who were absent or were unable to take their school photo on the original picture day will have an opportunity to have their picture taken this Wednesday.
INTERNET CRIMES AGINST CHILDREN (ICAC) PRESENTATION FOR PARENTS ON NOV. 3RD
On Thursday Nov 3rd, members of local law enforcement will be presenting information on internet crimes against children and internet safety at 6:00 PM in our Auditorium. This presentation is intended for ADULTS ONLY as the some of topics covered may not be appropriate for students. Students will be receiving information on Internet safety on November 10th through grade level assemblies. We hope you will be able to attend.

We will be hosting our second Coffee with the Princpal event on Nov 9th via zoom at 8:30 AM. Details are available under the news tab on our school website. We hope you will be able to attend.
ADDITIONAL AFTER SCHOOL TUTORING OPTIONS AVAILABLE
We have been working hard to get our after school tutoring program up and running to support our students. CLICK HERE to see a list of all the different subjects, times, and locations we have available to support students' academic success at Pershing. This information is also accessible through the "tutoring" link under the "Students" tab on our school website.
Many of our teachers also tutor informally during lunch time. It is always a good idea to reach out to teachers individually regarding tutoring options as well.
BICYCLE ETIQUETTE AND SAFETY
Parents if your child rides their bike to school please remind them they must (1) be wearing a helmet at all times and (2) should not be riding their bikes at a high rate of speed on the sidewalks, especially in the 5-10 minutes immediately before school starts and after it ends when there is a lot of pedestrian traffic. In fact, it might be safer for bikers to walk their bikes into the campus during times when there is high pedestrian traffic on the sidewalks. For the most part our students that bike to school try to obey the rules of the road and it does not seem there is any deliberate intent to do anything wrong - in most cases student are in a hurry trying to get themselves to school on time but we want to avoid any potential collisions/injuries.
CHERRYDALE FUNDRAISER UPDATE
Our fundraiser organized by the Pershing Foundation to help support 6th grade camp and other school activities ended on Wednesday, October 19th. Thank you to all those who participated. I know many students are anxiously awaiting their prizes. Right now the company is processing order forms and determining final prize totals. Students should receive their prizes in approximately 3 weeks and the names of our large prize winners (e.g. In N' Out Limo Lunch, etc.) will be announced in approximately 2 weeks. Thank you for your patience.
