ConVal High School Happenings - January 21, 2022
Message From Principal McKillop
Congratulations to our students for completing semester one! Thanks to help from our wonderful parents and student representatives from all of our classes, we were able to host a student appreciation event in-between the first two exams on Wednesday. Please see the article below that is accompanied by some pictures. On Wednesday after finals, parent volunteers also treated teachers and staff to a wonderful luncheon with home-made meals. Thank you so much for the culinary feast! On Thursday, members of the National Honor Society handed out goodie bags to students as a boost for the last day of finals.
You will see two new faces that have joined our ConVal community for the second semester, included below. We have two other new faces that will be shared in the newsletter next week. I would encourage everyone to view the start of semester two as an opportunity for a fresh start. As you learn new things, please don't hesitate to ask your teachers and be curious.
Best of luck to our Granite State Challenge team who will be competing this weekend vs. Portsmouth at UNH. As always, we wish our Cougar athletes competing and those involved in clubs and activities a wonderful experience as the school year continues to progress.
Have a wonderful weekend,
Heather

New Faces At ConVal — Abigail Konig
I am studying Secondary Education with a focus in English.
On any given day, you can find me snuggled up on the couch with my dog, Alistair, and a good book.
I enjoy theatre, the outdoors, and horseback riding.
I am so excited to be a part of the ConVal High School community this semester!
New Faces At ConVal — Emerson Doty
While in California I split my time between North lake Tahoe, where I was basking in the life of a ski bum, and L.A., where I was training to be a sommelier.
About halfway through my somm training I realized my heart was not in wine, and was instead, as it had really always been, in English and teaching.
During COVID, I moved back east and enrolled in a Masters of Education program, and am excited to be here at ConVal through the semester.
Students Garner Scholastic Arts Awards
Congratulations to the students in Mr. Levesque’s Digital Photography class who have achieved honors at the 2022 Scholastic Arts Awards.
Each year, Scholastic Arts submissions are juried by luminaries in the visual arts, some of whom are past award recipients. Panelists look for works that best exemplify originality, technical skill, and the emergence of a personal voice or vision.
These are the students and their respective awards:
GOLD KEYS
Esther Janis, Liberty Kemp
SILVER KEYS
Logan Burnham, Brady Carpentiere, Emily Clark, Jake Daniels, Max Depoyster, Gee Hardwick, Jennifer Hopkins (3), Liam O’Mahony, Annalese Patrick, Jasper Vergo

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the Scholastic Arts Awards will be presented virtually again this year. The virtual exhibition of award-winning work and awards ceremony will live-stream on March 11th at 6 pm.
NHS Hands Out Candy For Finals
The National Honor Society is a nationwide organization for high school students in the United States. Member selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, leadership, service, and character.
Affirmation Stations Between Finals
Did you ever receive a carnation in high school with a special message just for you? This idea was implemented in a similar spirit during finals.
Between final exams on Wednesday, there were four affirmation stations set up around the school for students to show each other some kindness:
Popcorn & soft pretzels - Concession stand near the gym, sponsored by the Class of 2025
Card making - Main entrance hallway, sponsored by the Class of 2024
Flowers - Cafeteria, sponsored by the Class of 2023
Muffins & cupcakes - Cafeteria, sponsored by the Class of 2022
The Link Showcases Senior Reflections
Some of our current seniors wrote articles and poems to express their Senior Reflections. The edition contains contributions by Jennae DeShane, Fletcher Maggs, Maggie Baribault, Corey Guzman, Elijah White, Esther, Willow Baribault, Cailtin Beal, and Eva McCullough.
McCullough was singled out by a community member with special praise for her writing: "I appreciated all the earnest, thoughtful, and interesting contributions from these high school seniors in the issue of The Link from Jan. 11. However, Eva McCullough’s (“Marc with a ‘C’ ”) was truly remarkable. I wish to thank her for adding a bright moment to my day. Also to encourage her, if she has not already done so, to consider a career in creative writing" (Anthony D’Ambrosio, Peterborough, "Letter: Kudos to McCullough," published in the Monadnock Ledger-Transcript on January 18, 2022).
