Thank you to everyone who filled out our Budget Survey! Arts education and Small group support remain high priorities for our staff and families. Through our Title I funding we will continue to fund Visual and Performing Art rotations for students (and collaboration time for teachers) as well as small group intervention support (not as much as we did this year, but we will continue to provide additional supports to students) for the 2024-2025 school year . While we do not have the funds to increase the numbers of days we have a counselor on site, we have reserved some LCFF funding to support additional counseling time in an effort to meet the needs of our students and as we support our staff in creating Cultural Learning opportunities for our families.

As our PTA fundraises for the rest of the school year, any support you can provide will help enhance the Jones Elementary budget by creating additional funding for experiences and events our students, staff and families love!

This week the calendar will turn to February and we will be recognizing and celebrating Black History Month as a school site. Our Culture Committee has been working on Classroom activities and putting together an opportunity at the end of the month for families to connect and celebrate with us (More details coming soon!)

Pre-enrollment for the 2024-25 school year is open Monday, January 22 through Friday, February 2, 2024, providing parents/guardians an opportunity to apply for a space in the UTK class at their neighborhood school or one of the 118 San Diego Unified schools where UTK is offered.

UTK is now considered the first year of school and is open to all students who will turn age 4 by September of this year — children born between September 2, 2019 and September 1, 2020.

Students in UTK receive a full day of school that helps build a critical foundation for kindergarten, both academically and emotionally. Students engage in creative play time, the arts, and the fundamentals of reading, writing, and early math skills. Each UTK class has two teachers, and all students are offered a free and nutritious breakfast and lunch at school.

Families can complete the UTK pre-enrollment packet in our front office. The following documents are required:

• Birth Certificate

• Proof of address

• Immunizations record

• IEP (if applicable)

This past week our 1st, 4th, and 5th grade students participated in Visual & Performing Arts rotations. Students engage in Dance, Theater and Visual art lessons with Visiting Teachers while classroom teacher collaborate in Professional Learning Communities.

Our Parent Teacher Association works with Jones Elementary to provide programs and support to benefit the students, their families, teachers, school administration and the community. Run entirely by volunteers, the PTA raises money to support enrichment programs, program instructors, educational assemblies and field trips, family events, and special classroom supplies.
