University of Minnesota - Share My App Program
The U of M Share My App Program allows applicants to the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus to share their application with all University of Minnesota campuses with no additional application or fee. This program was initiated to showcase the opportunities available system-wide and encourage applications to other campuses: Crookston, Duluth, Morris, and Rochester.
Within one week of completing their applications to the Twin Cities campus, students will see an optional Share My App checklist item in their Application Tracker where they can fill out a short form to request us to share their application.
Students should keep the other campus application deadlines in mind to ensure they are applying on time and taking the appropriate steps to apply directly if they are making 'Share My App' requests too close to the deadlines.

Community College Planning Events
October is Minnesota's College Knowledge Month
What is College Knowledge Month?
The goal of College Knowledge Month's is to provide every graduating high school senior with the preparation, opportunity, and support needed to apply to college. This month-long effort each October allows students to do more than just submit a college application. Within this time frame, students can participate in the college exploration and planning process at their own pace -- and schools can align this initiative with the many college exploration activities that are already taking place during the fall. Many postsecondary institutions waive application fees during College Knowledge Month.

Financial Aid and Scholarships
Raise.Me: Scholarships Starting Freshmen Year!
With Raise.me, students can guarantee scholarships from 200+ colleges as early as 9th grade, making it easier to plan financially for school. Raise.me has proven to be a great tool to motivate students in high schools throughout the U.S., as the site immediately rewards
students with scholarships for their hard work in and outside of high school.
As an example: ● Get an A in a course ($100 - $1,000) ● Get a B in a course ($50 - $600) ● Participate in a school club or sport ($25 - $250) ● And much more! These bite-sized scholarships are called “Micro-Scholarships”. When students add achievements to their Portfolio on Raise.me, they could be eligible to earn Micro-Scholarships towards our partner colleges.
Steps to get started:
2) Encourage your student to regularly add good grades, community service, extracurricular activities, and other achievements to his or her raise.me “Portfolio” to earn “Micro-Scholarships” from colleges.
3) Visit: https://www.raise.me for more information. Local schools include: University of St. Thomas, Gustavus, UMD, Luther, University of Northern Iowa, University of Iowa, University of Wisconsin- Stout, and more!

2024-2025 FAFSA DELAYED
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has typically been available on October 1st. Due to changes to the FAFSA this year, FAFSA will not be available to students until December.
Changes to the FAFSA Include:
- The number of questions on the FAFSA has decreased from over 100 to less than 50.
- The EFC (Estimated Family Contribution) is now the Student Aid Index (SAI).
- Students can list up to 20 schools on their FAFSA via the online application.
- Applicants will be asked to report their sex, race, and ethnicity on the FAFSA itself, but students will be offered a choice of “Prefer Not to Answer”. Schools and states won’t see responses to these questions on the FAFSA.
- The Data Retrieval Tool (DRT) has been renamed the Federal Taxpayer Information (FTI)
- Students, spouses, parents, and stepparents will now need to provide their consent in the new Consent to Retrieve and Disclose Federal Tax Information section of the FAFSA for federal student aid eligibility.
- This consent will allow the IRS to share FTI.
- If any party to the FAFSA form does not provide consent, submission of the form will still be allowed. However, a Student Aid Index (SAI) will not be calculated.
Changes to Calculating Your Aid Eligibility Include:
Students and families will see a different measure of their ability to pay for college, and they will experience a change in the methodology used to determine aid.
- The new need analysis formula:
- removes the number of family members in college from the calculation
- allows a minimum SAI of -$1,500
- implements separate eligibility determination criteria for Federal Pell Grant.
- Child support received will be included in assets and not as untaxed income.
- Families who own a small business/farm that also serves as primary residence will now have assets of that business/farm considered in their need analysis calculation.
More information regarding FAFSA changes and timelines can be found at this link.
