RECOGNITIONS
Welcome, superintendent Cory McIntyre!
Superintendent Cory McIntyre began service on July 1 which makes this his first School Board meeting as Superintendent. Board Chair Marci Anderson provided welcoming comments and Superintendent McIntyre expressed his appreciation and commitment to providing service to the district in this leadership role.
National Communications Awards
Anoka-Hennepin was recognized with seven awards from the National School Public Relations Association - or NSPRA - a professional organization for public and private school districts across the country. Anoka-Hennepin earned two 2023 Golden Achievement Awards for its e-newsletter transition to Smore and for a communication plan for the Superintendent transition plan. Anoka-Hennepin also earned two Publications and Digital Media Excellence awards, one Merit Award and two Honorable Mention Awards. NSPRA recognized the district’s 2022-23 Strategic Priorities informational packet, “No Limits, part two: The last day”, and the 2022-23 back-to-school video, featuring Interim Superintendent Dr. Kate Maguire. Anoka-Hennepin’s five-member communication and public relations team includes Jim Skelly, executive director; Heather Peters, assistant director; Tim Evans and Dax Larson, communication specialists; and Jessica Sauro, communication assistant.

The School Board received testimony from Erik Skogquist.
ELEMENTARY AND SECONDARY EDUCATION
Potential non-transported areas
Greg Cole, chief operations officer and B.J. Ison, director of transportation, proposed non-transported areas for Adams Elementary, Champlin-Brooklyn Park Academy (CBPA), and Dayton Elementary, which were determined using existing district policy. Following a public comment and additional review, a recommendation to move forward with approval of proposals for Adams Elementary and CBPA as previously presented. These changes impact 71 students directly. Proposals to modify non-transported areas for Dayton Elementary were not recommended for approval. Ison explained that additional study and review of this area, along with a review of the district’s transportation policy, would be pursued prior to any alterations. This review is expected to take place during the 2023-24 school year with any recommendations prepared for the fall of 2024. The recommendation was approved on a unanimous vote.
FINANCE
Pay 2024 tax levy timeline
Michelle Vargas, chief financial officer, reviewed the calendar and action steps required for the School Board to adopt the 2024 property tax levy as required by state law. The Board will set a public hearing date for Monday, December 11 at 6:30 p.m. following establishing a proposed tax levy at their Sept. 25 meeting. That information will be used to inform individual notices of proposed taxes that will be sent to all taxpayers in advance of the public hearing and adoption.
