NEWSLETTER - TERM 3, WEEK 3
ST PAUL'S PRIMARY SCHOOL, MOUNT LAWLEY
Jesus says:
Why do you confuse yourselves by worrying?
Leave the care of all your affairs to Me and everything will be so peaceful. I say to you in truth that every act of true, blind and complete surrender to Me will produce the effects that you desire and will resolve all your difficult situations.
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
What a great start to Term 3 we have had! Our students have been busy getting into their learning for Semester 2. Our Early Childhood students (and some staff!) have been having a great time on the new playground. What an amazing space this has become! We had our annual Scapular Mass last week and everyone received their scapular and learnt about the significance of this. Our students are truly blessed to be immersed in our rich Catholic traditions here at St Paul's. Our Year 4 First Holy Communion candidates had their workshop with their parents last week and are heading toward receiving the Sacrament for the first time later this term. Please keep them in your prayers. On Friday, we were not short of talent at the Year 3 assembly! It was impressive to see the variety of talent across our Year 3 students. Well done!
What a busy start to the term we have had!
What's been happening at St Paul's?
LifeLink Art Installation
During our efforts to support the LifeLink Appeal this year, our students completed some artwork that was taken to the official launch last term. The artworks from all of the schools were collated into an installation to be displayed at St Mary's Cathedral in Perth. Our school received a special invitation to attend the installation with Archbishop Costelloe over the weekend. Six of our student leaders attended with Ms Sheppard and myself and as it had to be a small event, we were one of only three schools represented. This was a fantastic opportunity for our students to be involved in this initiative and meet Archbishop Costelloe. Our students represented St Paul's well!
Parish School Mass
We have our next Parish School Mass on Sunday 6 August at 9:00am. Please try to come along for Mass and morning tea. This is a great way to get together as a community and celebrate our connection with the parish.
Learning Walks
This term, we have our Learning Walks in Week 9. This is a great opportunity to come in and share in your child's learning. The intention is for parents to view and participate in a selection of learning activities and discuss this learning with their child.
Sessions will be held from 3:10pm to 4:30pm on Tuesday 12 September. In order to create an environment conducive to what we are trying to achieve, numbers will be limited for each session and parents will be sent a link to book into a session closer to the time. Please note this date in your calendar.
Spelling Bee
Our Year 3-6 students have been busily preparing for our 2023 Spelling Bee. Class competitions are being held and on Friday, we will have the St Paul's Spelling Bee with the top 4 students from each class. After our Spelling Bee, the top 2 from each year level will then go on to the interschool competition being held at Trinity College next week. Good luck and we look forward to seeing who will be representing St Paul's at the interschool competition!
Book Week Parade
On Friday in Week 6 this term (25 August), we will be having our annual Book Week Parade. It's time to start thinking about costumes as the weeks pass quickly and it will no doubt sneak up on us! We will have the parade in the morning at 8:50am. We look forward to seeing everyone dressed up and celebrating our love of reading!
Athletics Carnival
It's that time of year again and the St Paul's Athletics Carnival is coming up on Thursday 17 August at Hamer Park. It's always good to see as many parents as possible there so please put it in your calendar and come along to join us on the day! Unfortunately, we are having some complications with our jumps and throws day for Years 3-6 and we will keep you informed as we try to find a solution. Normally, Mount Lawley High School very generously let us use their long jump pit, however, they have informed us they have some building work going on and they are unable to accommodate us this year. We have been looking into other options, however, it is looking like we may only be able to do the throws this year and not the long jump as we have been unable to find a feasible solution. We hope to be able to give you more details as this week progresses. Thank you for your patience!
Building Update
The building project has been progressing with most of the steel installed. The first part of the build is taking shape and the different areas are now visible. With the delays experienced so far, it is now looking like completing the current stage and moving to the work on the Year 4-6 classrooms will happen over the next school holidays.
2024 Enrolments
If for any reason you are not intending on continuing at St Paul's next year, please inform the school office as soon as possible.
Celebrating Our School
CATHOLIC FAITH AND TRADITION
St Paul’s was established more than 90 years ago by the Sisters of Our Lady of the Missions. For generations, we have provided a values-based, child-focused, Christ-centred education where Catholic teachings are central to school life. Together with St Paul’s Parish, we nurture students to believe, belong and become all that God has created them to be.
St Paul's is first and foremost a Catholic school and we are very lucky to have such a close connection with the parish. We constantly strive to fully live out what it means to be a Catholic school. As well as our attention to holistically forming our students, they are also immersed in our rich Catholic traditions and practices.
Have a great week!
Regards,
Mr Pete Merry
Principal
