From the Principal's Desk...
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Happy New Year! I hope everyone had an enjoyable and relaxing Christmas break. I can’t believe that we are almost at the halfway point of the school year, and we are gearing up for our Open House in just a few weeks. We have a ton of information and opportunities to help support the St. John’s Open House in the newsletter today, so please make sure you read below. The fastest and easiest way you can support our Open House is to share our Social Media posts and spread the word to new families.
We have had a great week of testing so far. All but a handful of students have completed the Winter MAP Reading assessment. Tomorrow, grades 2-8 will complete the Winter MAP Math Assessment. We are hoping to have all students tested in both Math and Reading by the end of the day on Friday. I can’t wait to sit down with the faculty to look at the data and see what adjustments we need to make to our curriculum for the second half of the school year.
Lastly, I did want to mention that we had an alarm go off today during our junior high lunch period. A member of the senior group at church ignored the warnings of the alarmed door and opened the door between the church and the school. This caused an alarm to ring in the junior high while grades 6-8 were in the cafeteria. The students did a great job remaining quiet and listening for instructions.. Mr. Collins was close by and was able to identify the reason for the alarm and quickly alerted the students and cafeteria staff that there was no threat. Tomorrow before testing I will be talking to all students about what should be done if this alarm ever goes off during lunch. We will also plan a practice during lunch next week so that all students can hear the alarm and know what to do if it ever goes off again while they are in the cafeteria. .
I hope you all have a wonderful week and an even better long weekend!
Sincerely,
Courtney Weinheimer
