A Message from Dr. Brown
Greetings Awesome Cub Community!
We had a great week here at The Mill! I appreciate all of your support. In an effort to be brief, yet informative, I will add “Brown’s Five Things” each week. These will just be a few reminders or updates.
Curriculum Night is Thursday, August 24, 2023 from 5:30pm-7:00pm. There are two sessions.
Please remember to review our Birthday Package flyer.
The School Store will open next week before school on Wednesday and Thursday morning.
We plan to have a total of only three fundraisers this year.

Woodward Mill is moving towards using ParentSquare as the main platform for teachers and administration to communicate with families. School Messenger (the means in which you are receiving communication from the school) will transition to Parent Square as of today. Beginning August 11, 2023, Cub Corner will be delivered via Parent Square. Please make sure that you have signed up for ParentSquare. We want to make sure that we communicate efficiently and in a timely manner with our Woodward Mill community.
For those of you who have not registered for ParentSquare yet, an activation invitation will be sent to your emails. We encourage you to activate your account as well as download the app for your phone.

Relay for Life
Don't forget to join the teachers as we show our Woodward Mill Spirit and help fight cancer by purchasing a Relay for Life T-shirt! All profits from the sale of the T-shirt will support cancer research, advocacy, and education!

Media Center
We are working on our plans to recognize the students that achieved their 600-minute summer reading goal! The GCPS BookMobile will visit our school as a part of our summer reading celebration in early September. Congratulations to our summer readers! We are excited about celebrating with you soon!
It’s been a great week in the media center! We have been working on expectations, procedures, and making independent reading book selections with our classes! Be sure to refer to the media center link on our school website for information about our media center policies and procedures. The Gwinnett Alliance for Gifted Education (GAGE) is a Gwinnett County gifted advocacy group for parents, students, teachers and community members. Attached are the GAGE Membership Form and a GAGE PowerPoint for you to learn more about what GAGE is and how it could benefit you and your child. Want to LEARN how to be your child’s first best teacher through PLAY?
Gwinnett County Public Schools offers a BIRTH TO FIVE program for you and your child at Woodward Mill! Children and parents are invited to come each Wednesday from 9:00 a.m. -10:30a.m.
You will:
- Learn how to find the teachable moments in everyday activities
- Learn how to engage with your child in play
- Learn how to continue the learning at home or anywhere
- Learn about your child’s educational milestones
- Learn how to get your child ready for school!

Counselor's Corner
We are having a "Kindness Kickoff" the last three weeks of the month. Teachers will be looking for students that exhibit the Kindness trait during August to be recognized as the “Cub of the Month” with a certificate and free ice cream! Please click here for more information.

GCPS 2023-2024 School Calendar
Please click on the link to view the calendar for the 2023-2024 school year.
This approved calendar features seven days of preplanning for teachers, a start date of August 2, 2023, and four digital learning days. The four digital learning days are scheduled throughout the year, with two occurring in 1st semester and two in 2nd semester. The calendar also features a fall break in October, a two-week winter break, a three-day break in February, a week scheduled for spring break, and an end date of May 22nd, 2024.
GCPS 1:1 Initiative
- All GCPS students will have a Chromebook assigned to them for the 2023-2024 school year. Students can also check out a hot spot for internet access based on demonstrated need. Families may contact their schools to discuss options.
- If a GCPS technology resource is assigned to a student and taken home, it is the family's responsibility to monitor the use of the device to ensure that the device is returned in the condition in which it was received.
