A Message from Mr. Hayman
Greetings Moose Pass Families!!
I am proud to be part of the Moose Pass family again. The first part of August was a little rocky for the community and school, but we now have a powerhouse staff and the kids seem to be highly engaged and happy. I would like to thank all of the staff for rising up. Ms. Barron is our guiding light and sets a wonderful tone for the educational environment with high standards in academics and high standards of care. Mrs. Lindquist is so very welcome back into the staff. She brings with her exemplary teaching skills as well as compassion for all students. Susanna is the hub of our wheel and is amazing at keeping track of everything while at the same time setting the tone for everyone who enters the building. And how lucky we are to have Mrs. Johnson officially a part of the team?! She has volunteered so much in the past that it only seems right that she be adopted officially. And, we have a lunch program again!! Thank you to Dani Koschak for stepping up and making this great service available. Finally, to round things out we have Jack as our custodian. Jack is like the wind, we don’t see him (well sometimes) but we certainly can see his positive effect on our school! Thank you!
My role in the district is different than it was when I was serving Moose Pass before. Now I work with the district-wide Connections Homeschool Program along with Moose Pass. My contact information is the same, dhayman@kpbsd.org if you should ever have questions or need anything.
Welcome to a great year!!

Background Checks
District Office has instructed us that since there is no student contact, background checks are no longer needed for Community School activities. So when we get it up and running, you will not need to complete the check for walking/work-out, tot time, or volleyball!
However, if you are a parent and wish to accompany your child on a field trip (whether or not you are driving a student other than your own), you must complete a background check. Hope School Happenings
This week in has been exploring problem solving. Students are currently using a method called the Problem Solving Process. There are four steps in this process. Define, prepare, try and reflecting about by looking at the results and thinking it through. They can try, try again and see what improvements they could make for the best result. This is not just a method we can use for coding but a great method for logical thinking.
One of our High School students is learning all about book binding. There are various ways of binding in order to make a book. French link stitch binding is his favorite method so far. I am waiting to see Tristen's completed project. If anyone wanted to learn about Book Binding, I think he would be an excellent source of information.
Middle School is currently exploring the up and downs of plate tectonics. Ask your students about the San Andreas Fault System. Let them tell you about what they have learned in class so far. They really seem to be very interested in this subject. I am not sure where Mrs. Christen will take them from here. We shall see.
Mr. Jeremy's room has been working hard on their reading and math skills. I know the younger students are happy that the testing is behind them. We are so very proud of them. Mr. Jeremy takes them outside almost everyday. Please make sure your student has the correct gear to stay warm and dry each day.
For those who were recently hired by the KPBSD to work as substitutes, WELCOME! Thank you for being a part of the Hope School staff. We have substitute packet printed for you to swing by and pick up. Once the paperwork is completed, we will scan it back to District Office for you or you may send it in on your own. Just know that we are happy to have you and willing to assist you with facilitating your final step in the paperwork chain. For those who have not yet applied with the district. We definitely want you here. Please consider being a substitute teacher, custodian or secretary.
Thank you all for making sure the children have proper winter gear. I realize there are students who still do not quite have what they need. The rainboots really are needed this time of year. Honestly, this year has been a bit on the wet side all summer.
Thank you Ms. Dawn for all of your hard work on the upcoming trip. The Field Trip to Kasitsna Bay is approaching quickly. The students are all becoming excited and speaking about what the trip will be like and what clothes they may need. Our students seem to be very good planners. If any of you have questions in reference to the field trip, please speak with Dawn Hammond-Sammet at the school.
