A message from Mr. Ryder
Dear Overlook Families,
The winter chill is in the air, but spring is on the horizon, and February brings a flurry of warmth-filled activities at school! This month, we'll be focusing on the character trait of HONESTY: staying truthful in both words and actions. Students will explore how honesty builds trust, strengthens relationships, and reduces stress.
Get ready for Valentine's Day classroom parties on February 14th! Detailed plans will be sent home soon by teachers.
Kindness doesn't end with Valentines! February is also National Random Acts of Kindness Day on February 17th. Encourage your child to spread a little extra cheer throughout the month with simple acts of kindness. We'll be celebrating kindness at school too, so stay tuned for exciting activities!
We can't wait for another fun-filled month of learning and growing together. Here's to honesty, kindness, and happiness in February!
Sincerely,
Mr. Ryder

Kindness Week
Wadsworth City Schools will be celebrating Kindness Week from February 12th through the 16th. Please see the themes in the attached picture. We will also have daily announcements and challenges!
January Perseverance Rock Stars!
2024-25 Kindergarten Meeting
Counselor's Corner with Mrs. Laino
February has so many fun and exciting opportunities for students.
National School Counselor Week.
Next week, February 5-9th is National School Counseling Week. I am so appreciative of you sharing your children with me each day. They are amazing! My goal is for each of your children to feel welcomed, accepted, understood, safe, and loved. Thank you for supporting me and the Overlook staff as we partner to educate and support our Overlook Grizzlies. If you would like more information on my role at Overlook or the role of a School Counselor please click the attachments below.
Kindness Month
February is Kindness Month for Wadsworth. Downtown businesses as well as the schools are participating in a Kindness Spirit Week February 12th-16th. See Mr. Ryder's attachment above to see the theme for each day. The Wadsworth Chamber of Commerce has decorated a Be Kind Wadsworth window downtown. Feel free to stop by for a photo. The city also will be participating in random acts of kindness throughout February.
How else are we celebrating Kindness Month at Overlook? Our library window is already filling up with acts of kindness that your children have experienced during the school day. If someone is the recipient of an act of kindness he or she is encouraged to fill out a lightbulb. It is then hung on the window to help "Light the World with Kindness." Each day on the announcements students are encouraged to participate in an act of kindness at home or school such as; holding the door open for someone, helping with dinner, or writing an encouraging note to a friend. On Friday, February 16th a form will come home with your child in honor of Saturday, February 17th is Random Acts of Kindness Day. If your child/children complete a random act of kindness over Presidents Day weekend please complete the form and return to school on Tuesday, February 20th to be entered to win a prize.
Self-esteem
During classroom guidance lessons this month your child will receive lessons about self-love/self-esteem and kindness. Self-esteem coincides with our lessons from January on growth mindset and the Character Strong trait of perseverance. Our mindset affects how we face challenges and helps us rethink how we approach them. Having a growth mindset and showing perseverance helps us realize we can make mistakes, keep learning, and make improvements. This type of thinking can increase self-esteem. Children with healthy self-esteem believe in themselves, stand up for their values, and feel important.
