Board of Education Update
Dear Royal Knight Families,
The start of the Washington school site clearing project marks an exciting milestone in our efforts to rebuild Little Ferry’s middle school. This site clearing project is expected to take approximately four months to complete. Our commitment to providing the best education possible for our students is unwavering, and it's time to invest in their future by building a new school that will meet their needs for generations to come.
Our next steps:
The Board of Education is actively advancing its efforts to initiate a bond referendum in pursuit of voters' approval to secure the necessary upfront funding for the construction of the new school. This crucial vote is scheduled for 2024. As part of the referendum procedure, the district is obligated to engage with the Planning Board of the borough. During this phase, initial plans will be presented to the Planning Board to gather valuable input.
Simultaneously, the Board of Education is diligently preparing all the essential documentation for this project, which will subsequently be submitted to the New Jersey Department of Education for a comprehensive review and approval. State approval plays a pivotal role in this process, as it will help determine project costs, assess available state aid, and gauge the potential impact on property taxes. We will continue to keep you updated, but if you have any immediate questions or concerns:

Washington School Site Clearing and School Expansion Project
Dear School Community,
As we kick off this new school year, there are some exciting updates to share about the Washington School site-clearing project and our future planning for Little Ferry Public Schools.
After a couple of delays, the Board of Education has selected the contractor who will soon begin clearing the Washington School site. You will notice some fencing going up to secure the site perimeter over the next couple of weeks, and preparation work on the interior of the building will begin shortly after that.
Phase two of this plan involves a bond referendum to generate the upfront funds needed to build a new school. The Board of Education is taking steps toward holding a bond referendum in 2024. Part of that process is presenting the preliminary plans to the Planning Board for their feedback; however, this step is a formality, and the Planning Board does not need to take action. The Board of Education will then prepare to submit the necessary documentation to the state Department of Education so it can review the project plans.
We will continue to keep the entire community updated throughout the process of both the site clearing and the bond referendum. We’ll use email to share news with the school community, and we’ll also post updates to the lfboe.org/LittleFerryFuture website and school social media pages.
Community members are invited to take a farewell photo in front of the Washington School (details here) before the perimeter fencing is installed.
Please remember to share your memories of Washington School, including your farewell photos, by emailing them to LittleFerryFuture@lfboe.org. You may also drop off memorabilia (photos, yearbooks, photographs, etc.) to the Main Office at Memorial School.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at mperrapato@lfboe.org.
Sincerely,
Matthew Perrapato
Superintendent of Schools

LFPTA
Dear Parents & Guardians,
The Little Ferry PTA welcomes you back for another incredible school year! We know your time is valuable and we are here to ease some of the worry for you. Being a part of the PTA means knowing your child is part of a larger community of advocates, resources and fun coordinators. We hope you know that you can get as involved as your time allows. There is no requirement to attend meetings or volunteer at events. If your schedule allows it, great! If not, that’s ok, too!
LFPTA Membership Drive - Happening Now!
Thank you to all who have joined the PTA so far - your support is greatly appreciated! If you entered our raffles at Back-to-School Night, please note that we will be calling winners at our first PTA General Membership Meeting on October 10th.
For those who haven’t yet joined: Membership forms will be coming home in backpacks in the next few days. We hope you’ll consider joining! You can send in the form and payment (cash or check made to LFPTA) to school, or you can JOIN ONLINE this year!
If you missed Back-to-School Night, you can check out our PTA presentation here.
The PTA is looking for volunteers to help with planning events, parties and fundraisers for their child’s grade level. We would like to have two Grade Ambassadors for each grade level from K-7. Please indicate your interest when you sign up for the PTA, or email lftpa@lfboe.org by September 29th in order to be considered for this important position!
Cherrydale Fundraiser - Happening Now!
This is our biggest fundraiser of the year! Your children should have brought home their Cherrydale packets this week. You can sign up online and order most items to be delivered to your home! The fundraiser runs until October 9th, with delivery to the school scheduled for November 17th.
Royal Knights Bracelets @ Family Fun Day
The LFPTA is selling Royal Knights bracelets for $1! We will have a table set up at Family Fun Day on Saturday, September 23rd. Please stop by to learn about PTA Membership - we will be raffling off LF Swag to those who join there! You can also buy bracelets and learn about our Grade Ambassador program. We hope to see you there!
